Hey, maybe I can try:

“Americans in general” is a general category including all Americans.

“African-Americans” is a subset, restricted to Americans of African descent.

“Asian Americans” is another subset, this one restricted to Americans of Asian descent.

“Spanish Americans” is yet another subset, this one restricted to Americans of Spanish descent.

You mentioned that Alan Keyes did not him. The truth is CNN excluded him. Keyes wanted to participate but in the true spirit of democracy CNN did not let him be heard.
Agree or disagree with Keyes… it is not up to the media to silence candidates.

It is up to the people to decide which candidates are viable.
