Zogby: Ron Paul Tied For 3rd In New Hampshire

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, New Hampshire, Polls, Ron Paul

Remember when I said Ron Paul needed to finish 3rd in New Hampshire to go on, but would probably finish in 5th?

Well, one poll shows he could do just that and finish in a 3-way tie with Huckabee and Giuliani for the 3rd spot. That would be huge.

The reason? Independents love him in New Hampshire. Maybe even more than they loved him in Iowa.

From Zogby:

McCain opens up his lead, though Romney had a good day. But the 3-day average favors McCain. He leads big among Independents, though Paul is beginning to draw some of the Indies’ support and is now polling double digits again in the North – taking votes away from McCain. Paul does very well among 18-29 year olds.

Firebrand Republican Congressman Ron Paul, the only GOP presidential candidate opposing the war in Iraq, also made big gains in the closing day of the campaign before the primary election. In both the Republican and Democratic races, five percent of likely voters said they remained undecided about whom they would support.

Here’s more from CNN:

He wound up with about 10 percent in Iowa. Will he do the same tonight? He may be a Republican candidate but he clearly appeals to independents — and some Democrats as well. Will he take votes from other candidates who appeal to independents, especially John McCain and Barack Obama? We shall soon find out.

And if he pulls away and actually takes 3rd all to himself, that’s a big story. It still doesn’t mean he’s going to win the nomination, but what it does mean is that he’s continuing to position himself as a new voice in American politics.

We’ll have more on this tonight.

What a horrible photo. Why do you post such a bad photo? It is well-known that a close-in face shot is purposefully intended to make someone look bad.

    Shame on you.

  2. Rob Says:

Oh come on tony, did you see the doozy on McCain a few posts down? Relax.

Justin, I just wanted to point out is that second to last sentence in your post. That is what I hope will come out of a Ron Paul run, and it’s why I’ll vote for him in the CA primary. Somebody needs to bring some sense back to the GOP.

If Obama looks like a sure thing, I’ll also vote for Paul in the elections (assuming a 3rd party run) unless McCain is the republican nominee (unlikely as that is) then I’ll vote GOP.

Here’s hoping that Paul can remind the GOP that it’s roots are in fiscal responsibility and that war mongering and gay bashing does not a conservative make.

I happen to like that photo. Tone it down a bit wont you?

Paul grinnin…thinking….”I want to see Giuliani’s beady eyes dart around like a Tilt-a-Whirl when we ram it home in NH”

You don’t want a tie, don’t be stupid. If there’s a tie that means the media will ignore one of them. You need a full win over the last 2. Just think of the story, “Romey gets third” or “Giuiliani gets third” will be the headlines depending on the paper or MSM outlet. They won’t say, “Ron Paul ties!” Guarantee it.

We want Ron Paul to win. Goddamnit this pisses me off. And yes your photo sucks. you don’t need a photo there. The story is enough.

The competition for the Independent vote in NH is intense. McCain has a claim on it, Obama has a claim on it, and even Huckabee might be attractive to some independents. I didn’t think that Paul would be able to pull enough independents to get the third spot. I’d love to see it, but am dubious.

If Paul gets the number three spot, he’ll have fox news to thank. New Hampshire voters have a strong sense of fairness.

  6. Tess Says:

New Hampshire folks know what has to happen if our country is ready for change, they will be voting for Ron Paul, just as we in California will be. Ron Paul’s Liberty and Freedom message is Hope for our Country and it reaches from the East Coast to the West Coast. No more IRS/income tax, no more big central bankers/Fed Reserve, no more nation building, and a secure border at home with our strong military forces, and our troops home to protect us here from the real danger.

Ron Paul has my vote and support. http://ronpaul2008.com

I can’t believe that in a state that has the motto: Live Free or Die would vote for John Mc Cain. I guess they’re voting for the die part; their young men killing and dying all over the world. How could this state put a war monger like Mc Cain in first place.

    Go Ron Paul!

I plan to vote for Dr. Ron Paul in 2008.

Please stop looking for something to complain about. I think this is a good photo. I see a look on sincerity in this mans eyes and the character of his face reminds me of his age. I like to imagine the age reflected in this mans face is a foundation of his wisdom. Although age is not a necessary variable to equate wisdom it reminds me of his experience and consistent voting record. A voting record that promotes freedom not fascism.

    Research, Reflect, and VOTE 2008.

    RON PAUL FOR THE WIN!

  11. A. Magnus Says:

McCain’s motto is big government or die. If that’s what wins the ‘live free or die’ state, then this country is lost.

  12. Michael Witmore Says:

Guess What! My friend just called me from New Hampshire and he said Ron Paul supporters are all over the place at the polls, and that allot of people who were thinking of voting for McCain are actually indeed voting for Ron Paul, they didn’t like his 100 years in Iraq part, also the Democrats are battling hard among one another…
Paul’s support is off the chain !!!
He’s not going to get third people …with 11-13% reporting…he’s going to get 1st place!!!
Just wait it’ ain’t over until….

  13. Roark Says:

    Yes ,that photo is terrible.
Stop being a apathetic PC spinless arsehloe.
you either believe in the Constitution or not.
State your business and tell us why with rational objective FACTS,
or are you too GUTLESS to say wher you really stand ,are you just another pooing machine with a head wher you shove food in ,just human meat for the sicialis machine,or have you got a brain?

  14. Jeff Says:

Clinton and McCain? The voters of New Hampshire should be ashamed of themselves. I think the new state motto should be the “Curl Up And Die” state.
