I’ve Got My Eye On RedBlueAmerica
By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, BloggingA new site just popped up, at least for me, and I’m intrigued. It’s called RedBlueAmerica and it’s put together by the E.W. Scripps Company, which owns cable outlets HGTV, the Food Network, the DIY Network, Fine Living and Great American Country (GAC). They also own a bunch of newspapers and local TV stations.
So why are they getting into blogging? Well, from what I can tell the site launched around December 27th or thereabouts, so I’m guessing they’re trying to catch some of that independent mojo that’s bound to pop up around an election where calls for unity and “change” are echoing all over this campaign. Long story short, they’re a bit opportunistic, but that’s par for course with media companies.
To give them credit, though, the site is interesting. On the front page two bloggers (one liberal, one conservative) are talking about Bush’s economic stimulus program and if it will help. They even have a little sliding scale voting bar for readers to choose whose position they find more compelling. Right now the vote is exactly in the middle so either readers thinks both are equally valid or nobody is voting. Hmm…
But I’d just you go over and check it out, kick the tires and find out if it has any value for you. I’ll be subscribing to their RSS feed and seeing if there’s anything I think that’s worth linking to. You’ll know if I do.
