He did himself in. He's not a likeable guy and he was full of his own self-importance when he dreamed he could get by on reputation until Florida and then sweep the nation off its feet.

It's far more complex than snub the early states=snub the media...Edwards, Paul and the other with less star quality didn't snub the early states and they were ignored by the media as well.

The conspirator in me says that certain candidates (Edwards, Paul and Dennis Kusinich come to mind) didn't appeal to the owners of corporate media, and others were simply not deemed as viable based on their financial situations.

Rudy falls outside both categories, though; the reason he failed is the campaign changed around him. The Bush lifeline of terrorizing the voters with terrorism slipped away as the economy moved to the fore and Rudy 9uI1liani couldn't redraw himself in time.

The only one to blame for Rudy's failure is Rudy.

As for VP material--why on earth would McCain (if he wins,) pick someone just as annoying to the GOP base as he is (a moderate left coast self-annointed intelligencia)?

Nope...it's going to be someone more conservative, and likely southern, but I don't think it will be Huckabee.

"A VP slot would probably be extremely compelling for him and McCain...- jg

I think you are on to something there. Rudy would help him with his perceived shortcomings on domestic economics in the general.

It won't help him with the hardcore right getting the nomination though. They really despise him. I'm looking for a "Sunday Surprise" out of the swift boat types to give Romney a leg up on Tuesday.
