By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Hillary

First, as a frame of reference…

What type of campaigning will we see in the next week? How will Obama try to close the gap? How will Hillary try and stop the bleeding?
WSJ has more…
Mrs. Clinton appears to have the edge going into the coming week. Polling conducted since the middle of January — after her [...]

Anti-Obama Muslim Google Ads On Donklephant?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Religion

The always vigilant Polimom emailed me and revealed me something truly disturbing…
I realize that you don’t control what ads google puts on your site…. And also that you probably don’t see many (most?) of them.
But I wanted to show you one that is running there at the moment:
“Barack Obama: Muslim?
Do Barack’s Muslim roots [...]

Hillary Campaigns In Florida?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Florida, Hillary

WTF?
Why would she do this when everybody agreed last summer to not go down there? I thought her call for the delegates from Michigan and Florida being seated at the convention felt desperate, but this feels even more so.
From AP:
SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) – Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton said Sunday she was going to Florida [...]

Republicans Get Behind Romney

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Republicans, Romney

Looks like they’re incredibly scared of what a McCain nomination would look like, so they’re rallying around Mitt. It’s puzzling to me, especially when they railed Kerry for being such a flip flopper in 2004, but these are the times we live in and what was wrong then is now, ahem, right.
Personally, I think it’s [...]

Ted Kennedy Will Endorse Obama

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats

Big, big, big news for Barack. Because between Caroline Kennedy’s editorial likening Barack to JFK and now JFK’s own brother saying, “This is the guy,” Hillary’s “experience” message is pretty much shot to hell.
From the Boston Herald:
Kennedy believes Obama can “transcend race” and bring unity to the country, a Kennedy associate told the Globe. Kennedy [...]

The Obama Shift Continues

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Billary, Hillary

At least in the middlesphere.
Alan Stewart Carl doesn’t throw his support behind Obama, but he certainly won’t support the Clintons…

I voted for Bill Clinton twice and, while I was a true-blue Democrat at the time, I have not regretted those votes even after I made a rightward leap and became an independent. I’ve continued to [...]

Caroline Kennedy: Obama = JFK

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, History

Now who’s going to say that this comparison isn’t apt?
From NY Times:
Sometimes it takes a while to recognize that someone has a special ability to get us to believe in ourselves, to tie that belief to our highest ideals and imagine that together we can do great things. In those rare moments, when such a [...]

Obama’s Victory Speech

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, South Carolina

If you care to watch it and haven’t yet.

What’s interesting is Hillary didn’t give a speech. But Bill was speaking in Independence, Missouri and some think he basically gave her concession. Weird, eh?
Conservative Rich Lowry says this on Obama’s speech
Overall, a stunningly deft performance, and a moving one. It’s the best liberal case you’ll ever [...]

Obama > McCain + Huckabee

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Huckabee, McCain, Republicans, South Carolina

Yes, that’s how big Obama’s win was tonight.
Here are Obama’s numbers compared to the top two Republicans in South Carolina:

Obama: 295,091
McCain: 147,283
Huckabee: 132,440

That’s 295,051 to 279,723. Stunning.
Could Obama actually be competitive in South Carolina come election time? Some seem to think it’s at least plausible…
Obama can now say that he’s got the best ability to [...]

Dems Are Turning Against The Clintons

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Billary, Hillary

A reader explains why it’s happening…
I was fairly young and disinterested in politics during the Clinton era so I cannot say that I followed what happened to them too closely except to say that I found the constant attacks against them silly and hurtful to the country.
That being said, now that I am following the [...]

The Return Of Yellow Journalism?

By 2008Central.net | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Elections, Gender, General Politics, Hillary, Race, Religion, Republicans, Romney, Television

In this video, I discuss the content and tone of 2008 election coverage. In my opinion, yellow journalism has returned and voters must be cautious, wary and skeptical. Most importantly, they must demand more…

Bill Clinton Discounts Obama’s South Carolina Win

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Billary, South Carolina, Video

Watch the following video and ask yourself why he’s comparing Obama’s win to Jesse Jackson’s wins in 1984 and 1988.

Obviously it was just because both Obama and Jesse share similar political views. It’s not about both of them being black. Not at all. Because Bill Clinton doesn’t ever play racial politics. No way, no how.

Edwards To Finish 3rd

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Edwards, South Carolina

Bad news for the son of South Carolina, but will he stay in it for the long haul so he can possibly become kingmaker at the convention?
So what happened tonight? Well, I think when the numbers get broken down even further they’ll reveal that a lot of people who were considering voting for Edwards switched [...]

Will Obama Double Hillary’s Vote Count?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Hillary, South Carolina

As it stands right now, Obama sits at 53% to Hillary’s 27%. If this holds up, the fact that he nearly doubled her vote count in this state is stunning. Because spin as they might, the Clinton campaign will be laughed at if they try to explain this away as a “race” thing.

Barack Obama Wins Big In South Carolina

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Billary, Hillary, South Carolina

Three big stories tonight.
First, Barack is poised to grab more than 50% of the vote. That’s huge, and especially since the exit polls suggest that the black/white turnout was roughly 52/48, not as big of a gap as expected.
Second, the exit polls also reveal that 60% of the turnout was female, making this the largest [...]
