McCain Hits Back At Obama’s “Hope” Message

Surprising that he’d start targeting Barack, but maybe the Republicans see the need to try and start now since he could steamroll them otherwise.

This from his victory speech tonight, via Politico:

To encourage a country with only rhetoric rather than sound and proven ideas that trust in the strength and courage of free people is not a promise of hope. It is a platitude.

Problem with that line? Who knows what a platitude is? Is that one of those funny looking animals. Yes, yes, I know what it means, but McCain better sharpen his attacks if he wants to paint “hope” as just pretty words. It hasn’t worked for Hillary and it won’t work for McCain either, especially if it’s such thin gruel.

Also, if you’re really paying attention to an Obama speech, what he’s doing is framing the things he wants to get done as the way this generation can make their mark on history. And he’s trying the potential to get those things done to the other great things we’ve done and the obstacles we’ve overcome as a country. This is playing and it’s playing very well. In fact, I think it’s one of the few ways you could actually motivate a country to get behind an idea like universal healthcare.

Again, McCain better come up with better material because while McCain is offering nebulous experience, Obama is offering an opportunity to change the world. I can guess what Americans will want to choose come November.

What proven ideas would that be? Tax cuts in a time of war to boost the national debt? Watch most Americans work hard so that they can watch their real income stagnate while a very small percentage at the top gain a great deal? What we’re seeing in the real world is Republican ideas shown as failures day after day.
