But then that is what the healthy do as well. Health care is never a problem till you need it. As with all insurance.

I’m a freelancer. I don’t have health insurance. I make just enough money that I don’t qualify for any of the low-income insurance deals that are out there. I’m in perfect health, and all I really want is catastrophic insurance that will keep me from going bankrupt if something really bad happens. The best I’ve found so far is $336 per month. I can probably do better if I kept looking but most insurance companies are looking to charge well over $400 for this. My “paychecks” (paid invoices, really) are erratic at best. I have no consistent income. Sometimes I have to make a few grand last for 6 months. Other times my bank account looks quite nice. There’s simply no way that I can afford full coverage, much less just catastrophic insurance, especially since there’s really no “return on investment” here.

I did the math, and the maximum I can realistically afford is about $140 per month. If either of the candidates can produce health insurance coverage at that price point or lower, I’m all for it, mandatory or otherwise. But if health insurance costs end up remaining at about the same levels they’re at, or if there’s only a minor decline in costs, a mandatory plan will simply put me out of business. This is one of the biggest reasons I won’t even consider voting for Hillary. I simply cannot risk my livelihood on a guess. And as far as I can tell, the mandated health coverage is just that: a guess. They’re guessing that costs will come down if everyone has coverage. But a huge drop in price is the only way insurance coverage becomes affordable for me, and I really don’t see that happening.

I don’t argue that most people don’t save. I’m just saying they should have to face the consequences of their own poor decisions. I shouldn’t have to pay for every stupid person out there.

I don’t have a problem helping people who’ve been given the short end of the stick, but I should be able to choose who I help and look them in the eye when I do so. Having charity mandated by the government is not charity, it’s coercion. It’s not nearly as effective as true compassion and the recipients will take it for granted if it’s mandated by law.

Yep. And considering the sarcasm I detected, I assume you have no idea how right you are. Read Article I section 8 of the constitution and the 10th amendment.

Donald Trump went bankrupt. Im pretty sure he was just fine with personal responsibility. The world is full of Conservatives who have had personal lapses of personal responsibility.

Our savings rate as a nation proclaims very loudly that people do not save for rainy days. Why do you think the government is wanting to send out rebate checks. Because people will save it? Of course not. People in this country do not save. They are bombarded daily, hourly and by the minute……buy this, buy that, you can afford it. Refinanace. Charge it, spend, spend, spend.

While you Dr. Saturn might be a saver and personally responsble. Most people are not. Most people in good health believe that they will be healthy for a long time. Then suddenly they develop high blood pressure. Guess what……..yep. Uninsurable. Sugar Diabetes. Yep…Uninsurable.

Yes. We need mandated health care just like we have needed other things to be mandated. Despite what Libertarians would have you believe, mandating is not relinquishing your constitutional rights. If that were so then every law on the books that Mandates us to behave in a certain way is unconstitutional.

Holy crud, you scare me. Are you seriously suggesting that the people are too incompetent to take care of themselves, so the government has to do it?

You bet your bippy I’d be saving for my own retirement and medical emergencies if I just had the freedom to do so. I cringe at every paycheck when I see how much money is being stolen from me for “social security” that I’ll never see a dime of, because I know darn well that the government will fail to make it work. If you’re younger than 30, you’re going to need to face up to that same fact pretty quick, buddy.

The problem with freedom, I guess, is that it requires people to be responsible and face-up to the consequences of their mistakes. If you can’t handle your fellow (wo)man taking responsibility for their lives, then I guess you’re in the right camp.

Oh, and remember the government produces nothing! They just steal from one group to give to another and most of it gets wasted in the red tape in between. If all you militant socialists would just pay the money you wish you were paying in taxes to charity funds, the sick and poor would be taken care of and we’d still all have more money to take care of ourselves. Hell, if I had my tax money back I’d be feeling a heck of a lot more generous too.

One day they were aggressively pursuing mandated health care upon America so that no Child was left behind.

Now that Barak Obama is trying a new approach which is essentially saying well if you want to pay for health care we will make it affordable they have totally switched their minds and gotten behind a candidate who is selling them down the river on health care.

What is the definition of affordable? Is 100 dollars a month affordable to someone who cant afford to pay the rent?

Is 200 dollars a month affordable to someone who lost their job 6 months ago and has run out of money?

Is 100 dollars a month affordable to a 21 year old kid who is in perfect health and just wants to party down and have a good time when suddenly that softball collision in centerfield leaves him paralyzed and without health care? Because its a volunteer program???

Who is going to buy something they dont need? How many , 20, 30, 40 year olds have their burial plan picked out and paid for? Who would pay for medicare if it was voluntary? Who would pay for Social security if it was voluntary.

The problem is simple…..telling folks well if you want health care we will make it affordable to you and now its your choice to choose it solves part of the problem but it does not solve all the problem.

Why dont we do that with Social security. Let the people decide. After all we as a nation have decided that its best they start paying when they start working. Why suddenly has the Obama Wing of the Democratic party suddenly given up the fight for health care for ALL. Why do they now sound like DINO’s on this issue?

Could it be because Obama is trying to appeal to so many people that he is bastardizing his positions. His core values to win votes. I suggest yes. Good luck with that when he arrives in the White House.
