Gary Hart On Hillary’s “McCain & Me” Strategy

It will come as a surprise to many people that there are rules in politics. Most of those rules are unwritten and are based on common understandings, acceptable practices, and the best interest of the political party a candidate seeks to lead. One of those rules is this: Do not provide ammunition to the opposition party that can be used to destroy your party’s nominee. This is a hyper-truth where the presidential contest is concerned.By saying that only she and John McCain are qualified to lead the country, particularly in times of crisis, Hillary Clinton has broken that rule, severely damaged the Democratic candidate who may well be the party’s nominee, and, perhaps most ominously, revealed the unlimited lengths to which she will go to achieve power. She has essentially said that the Democratic party deserves to lose unless it nominates her….
But what else does she know? After all, she’s the “fighter.”

If she doesn’t win she’ll either run as an independent or defect to the GOP, she only sees the Dem party as a road to the presidency

Hart, who would make a fine president himself, IMO, is right — and Clinton is very, very wrong. Very selfishly wrong. Very anything-to-win wrong. And because of that outrageous screwup, she’s tipped me off the fence. Unless he does something worse, I’m supporting Obama.

Is anyone surprised that throwing the baby out with the bathwater is probably going to happen in the Democratic race? McCain can easily be beaten by Obama and probably Clinton as well (although nothing energizes the Rep base like a clinton).
I believe the Obama campaign is different than anything we have seen because it has it’s roots in neighborhood grass roots organization. The labor movement is nothing like it once was…organized religion in the big cities doesn’t have the same “local” attachment that it once did….what will replace these 2 powerful local organizations? There isn’t anything, unless someone wants to invent it…..many people are hungry at a grass roots level for such a representative organization. Is the Obama campaign the beginnings of that “reach out” for a better society type of organization? I have no idea, but I do believe that any Clinton represents the polar opposite when it comes to “of the people, by the people, for the people” type of politics.
The Clintons do not believe you should be governing yourselves…..they believe they should be governing you, your behavior, your life. Do we really want to be told that pro war conservatives are in the best interest of the majority of Americans?

I don’t recall; President Clinton ever trampling or ignoring the Constitution, or thumbing his nose at statutory law, whereas with Bush & Co., that is standard operating procedure.
I don’t recall the Clintons perpetrating anything like what Republicans did in the tragic Terri Schiavo situation.
I think you would do well to review recent history and rethink this thing. I’m not trying to get you to support Hillary Clinton. For the reasons stated above, I’ve had it with her. I do think it’s important to be fair and accurate, however.

We’re talking about Hill not Bill. However, since you are so adamant about comparing and contrasting Bush and Bill - how about this:

“……Terry Schiavo” - Bill signed the Defense of Marriage act…not quite the same but still allowing the federal govt to stick it’s political nose into your private life.
Trust me when I tell you how well I know recent history, as well as not so recent history for that matter. I am always accurate, although I struggle with fairness for anything “Clinton” because history tells us that if you give any Clinton an inch they’ll take a mile - so “I think you would do well to review recent history and rethink this thing”.

I could go on for quite some time about this - but it isn’t worth it because the Clintons are from the last century…..not this one-
So get off your high horse—-Bill Clinton was no saint, and Hillary isn ‘t either - and don’t forget that when it comes to Bill and Hill (Beavis and Butthead) co-dependency knows no bounds and you won’t get one without the other - and that’s the real danger, so don’t forget it.

So let’s go down memory lane. Bill Clinton was impeached, FACT. Impeachment is a dirty stain on the Clintons’ legacy, another FACT. The shame of learning our commander in chief lied under oath for acts beyond unethical was and still too much for us democrats and the entire country. We want very much to leave that in the past and we would be damned if the Clintons open up the flood gates and put us through that nonsense again by deceiving us voters again via lies and exaggerated stories.
The truth is Barack Obama is very qualified to be President without the baggage the Clintons bring to the table and the Clintons know it too.
Barack is a man of high moral integrity/courage, vast experience as a state legislator for 8 years and US senator since 2004, sound judgment on many issues and his desire for a working majority to move the country forward.
People please set your fears aside and take the time to learn about Barack Obama before it’s too late. Many are doing so, republicans, independents and democrats alike. Let’s not repeat our mistakes of the past, playing to politics of smear and fear. It tears us down and we pay dearly each time.
