Pro-Clinton Bloggers Boycott Daily Kos

From The Caucus:

On Friday, it got to be too much for Alegre, a diarist on the flagship liberal blog DailyKos, who frequently writes in support of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

“I’ve put up with the abuse and anger because I’ve always believed in what our online community has tried to accomplish in this world,” Alegre wrote Friday evening. “No more.”

Objecting to the tone of attacks against Mrs. Clinton and her supporters on the blog, the diarist called for a “writers strike.”

“This is a strike - a walkout over unfair writing conditions at DailyKos. It does not mean that if conditions get better I won’t ‘work’’ at DailyKos again,” Alegre wrote, promising to come back only “if we ever get to the point where we’re engaging each other in discussion rather than facing off in shouting matches.”

Could this signal a potential split in the Dem party? After all, Daily Kos is the bellwether for where the Left Roots are headed, and that could be in two different directions.

Joe Gandelman gets tapped for a comment…

Joe Gandelman at The Moderate Voice blog writes: “Where progressive and moderate bloggers and commenters used to get worked up arguing about George Bush, there now a real angry, scolding tone in many comments left by Clinton and Obama supporters.”

He continues: “In short, the strike/boycott is a symptom — and with so many months to go until the Democratic convention, the prognosis for true Democratic Party unity going into the election seems ‘questionable.’”

Well put Joe. I guess we’ll see if the Dems implode because of too much intra-party sniping. My gut tells me it’s a distinct possibility.

fwiw - I am apparently a scab. I crossed the picket line to post my Olbermann screed over there - just to see what happens. Given there are few Clintonians left, the response is about one would expect.

Only way out at this point is for one to back out, clinton won’t she’ll let the party burn first, Obama may have to take the bullet for the sake of the party if Hillary can hold her lead in PA

  3. Justin Gardner Says:

Avinash, is Hillary holds her lead in PA, that really doesn’t mean anything. Because Obama is likely to wipe out any delegate gain she gets in the following primaries in Indiana and North Carolina.

At the end of the day, Obama will have won every category except “big states.” Is that really want Dems want to be the measure by which candidates are judged as electable? I’d hope not.

  4. TerenceC Says:

It’s just another stunt by a group of bloggers who can’t logically support the claims, assertions, and innuendos of their candidate (and taking them selves way too seriously in the process)

. Telling me I need to support Hillary because she is the best candidate is patently ridiclous - give me facts, and they don’t/can’t. I looked high and low for facts that would indicate to me that Clinton II is the best candidate - there aren’t any.

There is little to no difference between Clinton and Obama - so I choose to give my support to someone I like, someone who inspires others, someone who brings a different point of view to such an elevated office, someone who isn’t burdened by mountains of “establishment” baggage. It isn’t Hillary Clinton.

Someone at the KOS (I forget who exactly) wrote that these bloggers would need to be missed in order to actually have a boycott………apparently no one is missing them yet…..no one probably will. I think someone should write a post about a group of prima donna’s at the KOS who think anyone cares. A group that does’nt have the intellectual talent and gamesmanship to support their candidate. I’m taking my ball and going home now…..oh, you’re right it isn’t my ball.

For a long time now Daily Kos has tolerated and even facilitated hateful speech. That their community would turn against itself was never a matter of if but when. Too many of the posters and commenters at Kos can’t relate to the world without resorting to anger and demonizing. This Obama/Clinton row has as much to do with the kind of community that exists at Kos (and at smiliar leftist sites) as it does with anything either campaign has actually done.

  6. Tully Says:

There you go being rational and making sense again, Alan.

  7. Avinash_Tyagi Says:

    @Justin Gardner:

Oh he’s the winner clear and simple, but Hillary is too vindictive to accept that she will drive this to denver and probably beyond if she has to, I would not be surprised to see her leave the dem party if she is denied the nomination, she’s already left one party before, so loyalty to the party is not a concern to her

  8. mw Says:

Yeah, but Alan - some of us feed off of negative energy.

I think all Democrats need to watch Star Trek #66 The Day of the Dove:

“A malevolent entity has entered into the U.S.S. Enterprise computer and excites both sides to aggressive behavior. It forces the ship out of control, rushing toward the galactic rim, while isolating a number of Klingons and U.S.S. Enterprise crew, heightening their sense of paranoia and violence turning them against each other. Phasers become swords and the battle begins.

Spock finally realizes that the entity feeds off hatred and emotional excitation and has acted as a catalyst to provoke combat, keeping the numbers on both sides even. Kirk is able, in the end, to make a common-cause truce with the Klingons and they drive the creature out of the ship with their laughter. “

  9. Dick H. Says:

I know some Republicans who could see themselves in that Star Trek #66 mirror, though they might have trouble swallowing the “Dove” part!chai

  10. H Kissinger Says:

I have opined for many months now that the far left is embracing Barak Obama. The so called Progressive movement within the United States political arena is nothing more then a name change by the far left and that Barak Obama is their champion. Thus the endorsement by the Moveon.org.

Secondly it is without a doubt the republicans who despise Hillary Clinton crossing over in the range of 12 to 13 percent of Obama’s vote to give him his edge. The fact that Hillary is leading among registered democrats should be a huge flashing sign among democrats.

But its not. Win at all costs. We hate Hillary mentality of this nation is overloading the peanut brains of the party officials running this fiasco of a primary season.

These two things combined have turned the Democratic party into a shambles and have essentially snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

The fact that the Republicans have turned to a moderate some say liberal choice who will garner votes from both sides of the isle as well as a large chunk of the hispanic vote makes the chance of the Democrats seem bleaker with each passing day.

By the time the two candidates get to Denver. They will hate each other and their supporters will hate each other even more. The divide within the democratic camp is astounding.

Over at No Quarter Usa (A blog for Clinton fanatics) this site used to be somewhat fair and balanced. I was banned by SusanUnPc for commenting on some Obama bashers language (which basically consisted of Fuck Obama language) When I compared this language to similar language used about Hillary or Hillary supporters over at Daily Kos. When I said “sounds like Daily Kos to me”. Susan came on and told me I was being moderated and then she cut me off when I responded with a challenge. She then went onto to make completely false claims about me (saying that I was using different computers to get around her moderation and using other poster names at her site which are complete lies )

My comment “sounds like Daily Kos to me”. This is what I was banned at NO Quarter USA for. Scary times.

I WOULD NOT BELIEVE ONE THING THAT SUSAN OVER AT NO QUARTER USA WRITES ABOUT OBAMA OR ANYTHING AT ALL FOR THAT MATTER. SHE IS A FLAT OUT LIAR.

    BOYCOTT NO QUARTER USA

  12. Kathleen Says:

There is hateful speech all over the blogosphere not just at Daily Kos. No Quarter Usa allows outrageous language in regard to Obama. This has been going on for quite some time. Yet when I have brought attention to this double standard at that site (I am still undecided about Obama and Clinton) I have been attacked by the moderator herself SusanunPc. She banned me today for posting a response to a Obama basher. When I said that the comment “looks like Daily Kos to me”. Susan told me that I was being moderated and then when I continued to challenge her (she did not post these challenges although I have copies of them) and then went onto make claims that are completely false about me.

Susan who I had had some respect for has almost made an Obama believer out of me. After making these false claims about me, I will no longer believe anything that Susan at No quarter USA has to say about Obama’s involvement with the Rezko scandal or anything else. SusanUnPC is a LIAR and what she writes is not to be trusted.

She is a Hillary fanatic and is unable to be rational or logical.

If this in fighting, false claims and lies do not stop I really think the Democrats could lose in 2008. This is getting absurd.

Obama and Clinton need to join forces and pivot and go after McCain based on facts and his record. This very serious and destructive sniping could take the Democrats down.

    BOYCOTT NO QUARTER USA.

  13. Kathleen Says:

While Clinton and Obama camps sniping …..
McCain gets free press pass when he makes huge mistakes. Frightening mistakes. McCain is attempting to tie up the Israeli lobby vote by allowing Senator “radical” Lieberman to continuously hang over his shoulder and constantly whisper in his ear in regard to foreign policy. Lieberman has persistently repeated lies about Iraq and Iran (this is one of the people McCain is listening to) Terrifying

Go check out what Senator Lindsey Graham had to say about Iran this Sunday. He appears to be on the “bomb bomb bomb” Iran team.

America is so not ready to have an honest dialogue about race. I posted a long, and well thought out (if I do say so myself) on a favorite site today. I addressed a few comments made by some of the posters, but mostly elaborated on the experience of blacks in America. Guess what? I was BANNED! For trying to explain what Barak Obama was getting at. That’s really something. In contrast to the euphoria I felt when I say Obama’s speech, I feel nothing but despair for this country now. I don’t doubt for a minute that we are going to blow this chance to have honest, open hearted conversations about race relations. What is the point?
