Iraq Update: Iraqi Soldiers Joining Mahdi Army

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Iraq, Military

From TPM:

In other encouraging news, Iraqi police in Baghdad are apparently deserting en masse to the Mahdi Army, thus leaving city police checkpoints to be manned by Iraqi Army soldiers, who are conveniently available because the US military is getting pulled in to take over the fight with the Mahdi Army.

Once again, if we give them a safety net they’ll use it.

And did anybody for a moment think that our forces wouldn’t be pulled into what is essentially a fight for political power?

The same news is coming from multiple sources, too. This doesn’t bode well for those who will undoubtedly try to claim that it’s being exaggerated or not true. It will take years for this to sort itself out and we can’t afford to be in the middle of it all that time.

Is anyone surprised by this? Anyone? Really? What was happening in the Iraq Army was covered by Michael Totten last August, and was widely reported across the blogosphere and msm including by Justin in this post.

The only ones who apparently did not know that an Iraq Army attack on the Mahdi must fail, is Nouri Maliki, George Bush, and Dick Cheney.

Or - They did know, and this failure is a pretext for some other impending action.

So they are stupid or lying. You tell me which is worse.

It’s been clearly proven that they are both stupid and liars…….it’s as if they won’t allow one without the other. I’ll take an honest stupid person any day though.
