AXT—-just because Jon Stewart (pause now and bow to show proper reverence) cracked some jokes about him doesn’t make him a fool. FYI - Jon is a COMEDIAN. His show is NOT A REAL NEWS SHOW. I know, I know. It’s hard to believe that something that is produced by an ENTERTAINER is not real. It sure looks like a news desk he sits behind, but even HE admits it is not real.

I was a very vocal opponent of this war, mostly because the argument for the war was never explained to me in any sort of logical way. If Saddam had WMDs, I wanted better proof than artist’s renderings of mobile WMD manufacturing labs at the UN. Yeah, I know there was more involved than that, but still, could you honestly believe they showed that stuff?

Now Think Progress has put together an amazing breakdown of what Bush said and when he said it.

Here’s a taste:

Bush: “Our mission is clear in Iraq. Should we have to go in, our mission is very clear: disarmament.” [3/6/03]

AFTER THE WAR BEGAN, THE MISSION EXPANDED

Bush: “Our cause is just, the security of the nations we serve and the peace of the world. And our mission is clear, to disarm Iraq of weapons of mass destruction, to end Saddam Hussein’s support for terrorism, and to free the Iraqi people.” [3/22/03]

Bush: “Our forces have been given a clear mission: to end a regime that threatened its neighbors and the world with weapons of mass destruction and to free a people that had suffered far too long.? [4/14/03]

THEN THE MISSION WAS COMPLETE

Bush: “On Thursday, I visited the USS Abraham Lincoln, now headed home after the longest carrier deployment in recent history. I delivered good news to the men and women who fought in the cause of freedom: Their mission is complete, and major combat operations in Iraq have ended..” [5/3/03]

I urge you to read the whole thing. Regardless of what you think about the war, we have to start getting honest about how the American people were sold the war in the first place.

So tell me, war apologist or opponent? Or don’t you really care?

Should I expect you to now say that WMDs were a deliberate ruse to justify stealing Iraqi oil? or that 9/11 was an inside job? NEOCONS!!! and their damn agenda!

I did no such thing. I was against the Iraq War, and the neo-con agenda in particular, from the very start.

Maybe you’ve missed the hundreds of times I’ve said that on this blog or maybe you missed the fact that I campaigned for Dean or maybe you’re just mistaken.

Whatever it is, I’d appreciate a retraction…now.
