I heard it was economic – had nothing to do with the war or perceived diplomatic stregth or weakness. Apparently a huge amount of sub rime loans are bundled into several “wealth” funds currently tanking in Britain and it’s beginning to cause some really serious problems – but since there isn’t proper disclosure laws internationally there is no way determine where the problems will be introduced next, or the breadth and scope of the individual bank losses.
