Obama Straight Talking on Gas Tax
By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in Barack, Energy, TaxesI don’t generally agree with Barack Obama’s policy positions, but I have to say, his refusal to endorse the gas tax holiday is something I can really support. While John McCain and Hillary Clinton pander and pretend this economically unsound initiative is actually a good plan, Obama is choosing to stand up and admit that the gas tax holiday, as useful as it might sound to some voters, is a bad idea.
What’s interesting about Obama’s position is that he supported a state gas tax moratorium while in the Illinois legislature. That tax holiday had only minimal effectiveness and Obama is now stating that he learned from his Illinois experience. He now believes such initiatives just aren’t worth their cost. What I like about this is that it shows a politician using results-based decision making rather than ideological or political decision making.
I didn’t think I’d ever find myself agreeing with Obama on a tax issue. It’s nice to know some things can still surprise.

glad to see you’ve seen the light Alan, how big a contribution to Obama’s campaign can we write you down for?
