Can we take a break from Osama/Obama for a reminiscence?

R.I.P. YANKEE STADIUM

Apocryphal or not, one YogiBerra-ism I’ve always liked was his line about where Yankee players went for R&R. Referring to one particular hangout, he was supposed to have said, “Nah, no one ever goes there anymore; it’s too crowded.”

One place no one, Yankee players or fans, won’t be going anymore is Yankee Stadium, not because it’s too crowded but because it won’t be there.

Of course, technically, there will be a Yankee Stadium next year, just across the street from the old ballpark, but it won’t be THE Yankee Stadium which is scheduled to be torn down at the end of this season and replaced by the spanking new structure now in process of being built.

Watching the last MLB All Star Game at the real Yankee Stadium, the House that Ruth Built, a flood of thoughts and memories ran through my head including the times we kids without the $1.50 price of grandstand admission would try to sneak in and were always rebuffed by security people so we would loiter outside in the vain hope that Mickey would rock one out of the park and we would be there to catch it, not knowing that no one had ever or would ever perform that feat.

I also wondered as I watched the game why George Steinbrenner has to tear the place down. It’s still a magnificent stadium, the first baseball field ever called a stadium and rightly so. All gussied up for the All Star Game, with flags and bunting galore, the stands crammed with fans, its flawless emerald green grass all aglow on a Bronx summer night, Yankee banners reflecting its glory days and an unmatched record of 26 World Series conquests, it was a breathtaking sight.

I recalled the story of a young Babe Ruth, personally responsible for the stadium being built, and built as an in-your-face within full view of the Giants’ Polo Grounds just across the Harlem River. On first going out to his position at the Stadium, the normally unflappable Babe is said to have been almost speechless until he was able to get out his vastly understated words, “Some ballpark.”

And it was/is some ballpark, with its façade that once kept a Mantle homerun from clearing its confines, to its Monument Park with its tributes to the dozens of great Yankees down through its history, to its still cavernous outfield where, before its refurbishing in the 70s, there stood the original “monument park,” three tombstone-like stones. When I was lucky enough in my youth to gain legal entry—back then the fans were permitted to traverse the field after the games—I would invariably visit them with a hushed reverence and utter a silent prayer since I believed Miller Huggins, Lou Gehrig, and the Babe were interred beneath my feet.

I had another déjà vu experience while watching the game tonight, a remembrance of things past and a realization that what goes around truly does come back around to bite one in the arse.

Back in 1957, September 29th, to be precise, a bunch of us Yankee diehards attended our first and only game at the Brooklyn Dodgers’ Ebbets Field to cheer them on—on to Los Angeles, that is....

CAUTION: This is not directly Osama/Obama related!

For some reason, Part One of this very mini-series resulted in quite a rise in interest. Some clarification is in order.

Salon.com had published a piece by Lynn Harris, entitled, “The Rainbow Party Is Over,” http://www.salon.com/mwt/broadsheet/2008/05/21/teens_oral_sex/, which I referenced in Part One on July 13th, 2008.

I had not given the details or even an explanation of Harris’ title, and, out of delicacy, nor does she except to provide a link which obfuscates the subject even more, except to say, “rainbow parties are group oral sex parties in which each girl wears a different shade of lipstick, and each guy tries to emerge sporting every one of the various colors.” (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/30/fashion/thursdaystyles/30rainbow.html)

That 3 year old article assumes the reader can figure the location of the various lipstick stains, but dismisses it all as “suburban legend” and cites a 4 year old study that found that only 12 % of teen girls, 13-17, (now 50 %), had engaged in oral sex and a minuscule number had attended oral sex parties of any sort. The Washington Post even jumped into the fray: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/19/AR2008051901219.html?nav=rss_nation, as did the Guttmacher Institute, http://www.guttmacher.org/media/nr/2008/05/20/index.html, which felt it imperative to cloud the issue of normal teens with stats on homosexuals. All felt it necessary to incorporate commentary on teens and anal sex.

More to the point is the semi-raging debate over what teens are doing as a consequence of their blazing hormones, ...

Short on cash?!?! Are you high? Let's see. 1.5 million people ponied up and average of $50 for the possibility of a historic nomination and now that he is the nominee, you surmise they are, oh I don't know, going to Mars? You predict that , NOW that those same 1.5 million (and possibly more) wont pony up another 50 bucks! You REALLY believe that, Bunky?

OBAMA XXXVIII: PACK YOUR BAGS, OBAMA! YOU WIN!
May 22nd, 2008
Apparently, it’s all over folks! Barack Hussein Obama will win in November. It’s a done deal, in the cards or, more precisely, in the stars, at least according to the United Astrology Conference. (http://news.aol.com/elections/story/_a/president-obama-in-the-stars-panel-says/20080521105309990001?icid=1615984944×1202944136x1200)

Meeting in Denver to be closer to the stars, today’s version of soothsayers predicted the next person elected to the presidency will Barack Hussein Obama. However, the stars suggest he may never take his seat in the Oval Office.

Perhaps Vice President Hillary Rodham Clinton calls on her old Arkansas buddies and arranges his removal? Who knows? But right now, Obama should be packing his bags to re-locate to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and the rest of us should be working on getting an acquired taste for hummus and the women folk should be getting fitted for burkhas.

Hey, it’s written in the stars! Remember what happened to Julius Caesar when he ignored the soothsayer!

No, the message is that Obama is short of cash and can't allow money to go to other groups!

Obama short of money? Of course, most of his fundraising is only usable for the primaries. For the GE, he is still far behind, moneywise. Clinton has more than $30m that she can only spend in the GE, Obama has tens of millions he can only spend in the primaries and some 10-15m for the GE.

Every dollar that goes to other groups hurt Obama and that is why he is so greedy
