Warren Buffett Backs Obama

The “Oracle of Omaha” (or “Sage” as noted below) is putting his considerable economic gravitas behind the Democratic candidate.

From the AFP:

Buffett told a press conference here Monday he had offered support to both Obama and Democratic rival Hillary Clinton but that since it appeared Obama would win the party’s nomination, “I will be very happy if he is elected president.

“He is my choice,” Buffett said.

Commenting on the US economy, the 77-year-old investor who is known as the “Sage of Omaha,” stressed that fiscal, monetary and trade policies were of great importance.

“I think that the US has followed and is following policies which will cause the US dollar to weaken over a long period of time,” he said.

I guess he’s tired of the Repubilcan’s version of “fiscal responsibility.”

I could be wrong, but I though Buffet was always a rather progressive guy. I doubt he was ever a Republican.

  2. James Says:

Buffett’s frugal with his money but he’s never been a Republican. The Right could learn a thing or two from the guy, though.

  3. Bob Says:

I didn’t get the last line either, he has always been for more Democratic policies than any GOP ones. He is for the estate tax, thinks the rich don’t get taxed enough and it’s easy to get around taxes. Believes government should not be in the business of gambling. He believes it is a tax on ignorance (although many GOP don’t like gambling either).

I think he’s not for either party knowing that each party will inevitably succumb to the lobbyists. Rather he looks at the individual and gauges leadership qualities independent of party politics.

I believe Warren Buffet sees that Obama will attempt to distance himself more and more from party politics and commercial lobbyists, but Warren Buffet also knows that at the same time the odds are stacked against Obama.

I agree with buffet fan, I don’t think warren Buffet particularly favors any party or politician, there was no real standout at the the time, except maybe Ron Paul. To date I don’t think Obama has done that bad, but of course he could have done a lot better, even Barack Obama has succumbed to the pressure of lobbyists which is a real disappointment.

I look forward to the next US election, even though I live in Australia.
