Alan, your post was reassuring. I think I'm more conservative than liberal, but I'd never in a million years want to be associated with current Republicans (who I do not think act at all like real conservatives). I'm still a Democrat and probably will be for a long time becuase I'd rather be associated with the Dem wack-o fringe than with the Republican wack-o fringe . I'll take the whiney tree-hugger over the xenophobic war-mongers any day. Your wack-os are mean.

This amuses me. McCain did minimize his amnesty support during the primaries but he never renounced it or said he wouldn't persue it. And his recent comments don't, to me, seem to suggest that securing our borders wouldn't be an important aspect of his comprehensive immigration reform.

These anti-immigration Republicans were flat out deceiving themselves (rather than being deceived) if they thought McCain had changed his mind on the issue. They're also completely deluded if they think the future success of the Republican party rests in persuing policies that border on the xenophobic. Do they really want to lose the hispanic vote for a generation? Even George Bush is smart enough to know immigration reform, not some ridiculous and impossible law enforcement endeavor, is the only hope we have of making a bad situation better.

John McCain's immigration position is one of the reasons I support him. That probably, once again, hurts might right-of-center credentials.
