Rasmussen: Obama Leads McCain By 7

Obama - 50%
McCain - 43%

Definitely a different story in today’s Rasmussen poll from Gallup’s, and I’ll start following this one on a daily basis to show the differences between the two.

The 5 day:
06/08/2008: McCain - 43%, Obama - 50%
06/07/2008: McCain - 45%, Obama - 48%
06/06/2008: McCain - 43%, Obama - 48%
06/05/2008: McCain - 45%, Obama - 47%
06/04/2008: McCain - 45%, Obama - 47%

The details…

Obama’s bounce is the result of growing unity among the Democratic Party. Eighty-one percent (81%) of Democrats say they will vote for Obama over McCain. That’s the highest level of party support ever enjoyed by Obama. Still, three-out-of-ten voters are either uncommitted or could change their mind before Election Day. Fifty-six percent (56%) of those swayable voters are women and most earn less than $60,000 a year. There are more conservatives than liberals among these potential swing voters.

Looks like Obama still has a lot of bridges to mend with those blue collar women, but if he can pull it off this looks like quite a difficult fight for McCain.

How about at least contextualizing it as being of less importance than the composite results constructed from whatever the latest state-by-states show?

The daily roller-coaster of the latest national poll, while it may be a bellweather of wider trends, is of far less interest than the electoral tally based on what you get given the latest poll from each state. I’ll keep a look out for such a map. I think RCP had one in 2004.

    In other words:

OOOOOH—HI—–OOOOOOOO, Round on the ends and high in the middle.

OOOOOH—HI—–OOOOOOOO, Round on the ends and high in the middle.

OOOOOH—HI—–OOOOOOOO, Round on the ends and high in the middle.

Here it is…here’s the composite map at RCP, this is the thing to watch.

It will be interesting to see whether or not trends suggested by the national polls actually manifest themselves in the state-by-states.

Gallup, now has Obama with a 6 point lead, which shows a trend between the two polls.
