Obama is definitely captivating the nation with a message that appeals to diverse people. Obama is not only winning the “Facebook” wars, he is also dominating cyberspace in every way–bloggers, iTunes, youtube, chat rooms, online groups, the list is neverending. it is cute that McCain is trying to keep up, but the future is coming and it is named OBAMA!

What Jim S said. Also, perhaps to belabor the obvious, this is likely a strong harbinger of campaigns to come. Anyone even remotely interested in joining the 2012 campaign is probably (or at least should be) following the Facebook front of the campaign to get an idea of what does and doesn’t work there.

Facebook and similar technologies are disproportionately effective among the younger segment of the population. If Obama’s campaign continues its success with them, including turning out the vote in a group that has a history of low voter turnout it can be a huge factor in a close election.
