I have zero doubt that it would produce good results post-election, but pre-election, it just won't play, and Obama can't afford that. Hagel will be SecDef I suspect. I will be very disappointed if he isn't given a cabinet position, honestly. He's a good guy, with a long history of actually being reasonable.
