Meanwhile, In Afghanistan…

Given our lack of attention to this region, is it much of a surprise that the former regime is getting stronger?

A new Pentagon report says the Taliban has regrouped after its initial fall from power in Afghanistan. The new report offers a rather dim view of progress in the nearly 7-year-old war, declaring that the Taliban has “coalesced into a resilient insurgency.”

Noting that insurgent violence continues to climb, the report said that despite efforts to capture and kill key leaders, the Taliban is likely to “maintain or even increase the scope and pace of its terrorist attacks and bombings in 2008.”

A reminder…last month the number of American military casualties in Afghanistan were actually more than we had in Iraq.

    Time for a strategic withdrawal.

WOW-Nothing like abandoning a people that could really use some freedom of speech, religion and education. A little medical care and some electricity would go a long way for the many women (3X as many that will die in childbirth than all killed in fighting this year) in the impoverished country. Not that it could happen with the Talibs in power. Love the way my liberal brothers want to abandon the best part of our liberal traditions because some right winger got it wrong for a little while. It ain’t right, but there are many great Afghans that are beginning to understand servant leadership based on the example of many fine coalition public servants, so lets leave now and see what happens. Maybe we can watch some more of our great landmarks fall the way the WTC came down on 911. Grow up and mount up-for all the best reasons.

Jimmy, as if I really need to say this again…

Afghanistan was harboring the people who organized the attack on us. Iraq was not. Yes, eventually members of al Qaeda moved into Iraq after we invaded, but our foreign policy drew them there, not the other way around.

One last note…I have consistently lobbied since 2005, when this blog started, that we needed to refocus on Afghanistan. So this is nothing new for me. I hope we do so soon.

“Afghanistan…harboring the people who organized the attack on us.” What did you smoke for breakfast? You and I both know this goes much higher into the upper echelons of the oil and drug trade, which sadly, involves the political whores of the world. Afghan administration is no more responsible for the attacks on us than American administration, or Iraqi, or Israeli, for that matter. Our “beloved” chimp-in-chief is just another puppet…another clown on the world stage who, by his dishonorable service, has embarrassed the entire nation, and deprived millions of the lives of their loved ones.

We need to focus on American soil first, and heal from within, dispense with the bitterness and hatred we’ve been told to have for other countries, and actually propagate the notion of freedom, not democracy. Freedom is a birthright. Democracy is a political choice. We have no right to force-feed our ideals to any peoples, including our own.
