Let me guess, you don’t even have a clue as to who Bud Day is? He’s the second most-decorated American in history (after MacArthur).

You claim Kerry is an honorable man. Would an honorable man make up a story about his trip to Cambodia on Christmas Eve? Would an honorable man make up a story about delivering a breech-birth baby on his Swift Boat (See the Boston Globe bio of Kerry for this story, which remarkably does not appear in Tour of Duty).

Kerry may not have made up the lies of the Winter Soldier conference, but he repeated them uncritically before the Senate. More than any one other person (other than Calley), Kerry was responsible for the image of Vietnam vets as baby-killers.

This whole issue is going to turn into a huge win for Obama, and all the slimeball Republicans, who don’t even like McCain to begin with, are going to be asking themselves “what happened”?. McCain using a swiftboat slimeball to defend him is another in a series of miscalculations that prove McCain has no clue. The more this becomes an issue, the more it is pointed out that getting shot down doesn’t qualify you for the presidency, especially when your judgement on almost everything since 2001 has been dead wrong, and continues to be.

But of course that wasn’t the only thing they said and Pickens said that he’d pay up if anyone proved that anything the Swift Boaters said was false. Then he backpedaled when he lost. As far as Kerry’s testimony is concerned here is a link to the entire testimony.

What Jimmy and every one of his fellow Republicans left off was the opening paragraph and first part of a sentence. It reads as follows.

I would like to talk on behalf of all those veterans and say that several months ago in Detroit we had an investigation at which over 150 honorably discharged, and many very highly decorated, veterans testified to war crimes committed in Southeast Asia. These were not isolated incidents but crimes committed on a day-to-day basis with the full awareness of officers at all levels of command. It is impossible to describe to you exactly what did happen in Detroit – the emotions in the room and the feelings of the men who were reliving their experiences in Vietnam. They relived the absolute horror of what this country, in a sense, made them do.

The swiftboaters made the audacious claim that a man named John Kerry – the very same who ran for president in 2007 – testified before congress in 1971 where he described fellow veterans of the Vietnam war as follows:

At times they had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam in addition to the normal ravage of war, and the normal and very particular ravaging which is done by the applied bombing power of this country.

My question is this: What if John Kerry actually said those things? Is it a smear to make a 527 quoting Senator Kerry verbatim in an attempt to show how much it offended other Vietnam Veterans who served honorably, as it turned out that none of these accusations of war crimes turned out to be founded in reality?
