McCain – 50%
Obama – 45%
Without Leaners
McCain – 47%
Obama – 42%
The two were basically tied in Rasmussen’s poll last month, while a poll from SurveyUSA showed McCain up by 7.
This month, it appears as if Republican support has solidified around McCain, but Obama’s base is still a bit mushy…
Including leaners, McCain is supported by 93% of Missouri Republicans and enjoys a sixteen percentage point lead among unaffiliated voters. Last month, Obama had a slight advantage among the unaffiliateds and this month he is supported by 80% of Democrats.
And here’s the curious thing about these numbers…Missouri voters seem to line up more with Obama’s positions than McCain’s…
Forty-six percent (46%) of Missouri voters say that economic issues are the top concern for Election 2008. Twenty-four percent (24%) say national security issues are the highest priority. These figures are similar to the national average.Fifty-three percent (53%) of Missouri voters say it’s more important to get the troops home from Iraq than to win the War. Forty percent (40%) disagree and say victory is more important. Voters see the candidate’s positions on Iraq as the biggest difference between McCain and Obama.
To be sure, both candidates will be spending A LOT of time in the Show-Me State. This one is key, and the campaigns knows that all too well. In fact, Missouri could be THE swing state this year.
More as it develops…
