The John McCain who was on offer in 2000 was vastly more impressive, both as a candidate and as a potential President, than the John McCain we are seeing this year. He is attacking to stay relevant He knows he's looking at a landslide, so he's spending money on all these attack ads to move opinion polls in his direction at a time when Obama is looking so much more presidential than he is. All the while, Obama keeps shoring up his message, and solidying his ground structure in the individual states, while saving his money for the fall, when people are really paying attention. By that time, the McCain as cranky old whiner meme will be set and he will get crushed by the avalanche of pro-Obama and anti-McCain ads. That was brilliant and will work more than anything in either two of these ads. Barrack Obama = Paris Hilton = Celebritard. It works because it is a fear that a significant number of us undecided-moderate-centrists folks have: How much of Obama is the product of left-wing hero-worship totally devoid of real gravitas, fundamental principals, moral clarity, sound experience & judgment...a political porn star...a one-hit wonder... Do we really want the presidential equivalent of Toni Basil or Falco running the country? Maybe he's secretly filming the campaign trail for a kick-butt reality series if he doesn't make it. Obama desperately wants to be a victim so he can fulfill the classic narative of the black man struggling to overcome, in his words, "the white man's greed." Meanwhile, in Obama's own ads, what does he emphazise most?
