Judgment vs. Experience

By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Discuss, McCain

After traveling to Afghanistan and Iraq with Barack Obama, Republican Senator Chuck Hagel had this to say:
“Each candidate has strengths and weaknesses, and experience does matter. But what matters more in my opinion is character and judgment. And judgment meaning who is it that you bring around, who is it that you listen to? Can [...]

Gallup: Obama Leads By 9

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Independents, McCain, Polls, Republicans

A 2 point net jump since yesterday and the first time Obama has lead McCain by such a wide margin. It also represents the first time any candidate has reached the 49% mark in Gallup’s polling.

The question now: how long will it last?
A key question remains as to whether this “bounce” is short-term (as happens [...]

Obama’s Foreign Policy Platform Gaining Traction

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Foreign Policy, Iraq, McCain, The World

Who knew the views he expressed last fall would be so popular nowadays? And this overseas trip only put an exclamation point on the fact that many seem to adopting his stances in one way or another.
Frank Rich breaks it down…
First, on July 7, the Iraqi prime minister, Nuri al-Maliki, dissed Bush dogma by raising [...]

Study Shows Media MUCH Tougher On Obama

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, McCain, Media

Of course many are crying about the “liberal-media” bias favoring Obama, but it looks like that’s not the case.
From the LA Times:
The Center for Media and Public Affairs at George Mason University, where researchers have tracked network news content for two decades, found that ABC, NBC and CBS were tougher on Obama than on Republican [...]

What Americans Believe

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Independents, McCain

Charles Blow observes what many of us have suspected for quite some time now…that we’re really not all that much different when you take a look at what we believe:
• Six in 10 Americans believe that conservation should be emphasized to solve the energy problem, 7 in 10 favor the death penalty for murder and [...]

McCain lost one since yesterday so it appears as if Obama’s overseas bounce continues to cause trouble for the Arizona senator.

Over the coming week, it will be interesting to see if the bounce [...]

Gallup: Obama Leads By 7

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Independents, McCain, Polls, Republicans

A couple more days of this and the “Berlin Bump” may just be real.

The details…
Obama’s particularly large leads over McCain in Friday and Saturday’s tracking suggest that the massive publicity surrounding Obama’s speech at the Victory Tower in Berlin on Friday — the only major public event of the trip — and coverage of Obama’s [...]

John McCain takes my advice.

By mw | Related entries in Barack, Iraq, McCain

Not all moderates and independents are enamored with a toe-the-party-line Democratic President, a 100 vote Democratic majority in the House, and a filibuster proof Democratic Senate all promising more taxes, more regulation, more spending programs, more faith based initiatives, less free trade, mandatory government service, no new drilling, anda return to corrupt single party K-Street earmark business as usual.

What Was John Edwards Doing At That Hotel?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Edwards

A criminal complaint has been filed by the Enquirer and so there’s a very good chance that Edwards will be contacted about the following incident…
The Beverly Hilton Hotel guard said he encountered a shaken and ashen-faced Edwards — whom he did not immediately recognize — in a hotel men’s room early Tuesday morning in a [...]

McCain Claims Maliki Didn’t Mean It

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, History, Iraq, McCain, Video

Watch…

Now remember, Maliki didn’t just say this once…he said it twice. And then other Iraqi officials said “2010″ specifically. There was no mistranslation. So when McCain says “he won’t,” well, that ship has already sailed. Maliki “has” and McCain not wanting to accept that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.
More as it develops…

Looking for More from Obama

By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Germany

Yesterday, Barack Obama gave one of his Important Speeches to the people of Berlin. The words were, as always, uplifting and the message chock-full of calls for unity. He used the fall of the Berlin wall as a continuing motif, a metaphor for world unity. That led to this riff:
The walls between old allies on [...]

Greenwashing

By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in Environment

Green (i.e. environmentally friendly) products are no longer on the fringes of consumer options. They’re mainstream. In fact, “being green” has turned into such a marketing plus that companies are using green language to promote products that aren’t at all environmentally sound. As a result, consumer groups and government bodies are working to combat fraudulent [...]

Bush Administration Created New Definition Of Torture

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Bush, History, Law, Torture

Apparently it’s not actually torture unless the one doing the interrogation intends to cause severe pain or suffering. And if it “accidentally” happens over the course of months or years, well…you can’t make an omelet…

Ultimately I think this speech was a worldwide call to unite in the War on Terrorism, and in that respect I think it could help him.
