Did Romney Just Lose The VP Spot?
By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Energy, History, McCain, Romney, Veep, VideoWolf Blizter recently asked Veep contender and South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford about the differences between McCain’s economic platform and Bush’s. Result? He couldn’t come up with anything. At that point the chattering class basically 86′d him from the Veep list.
Now Wolf turns his attention to Romney and asks him about McCain’s legislative achievements in regards to energy.
If you’re a surrogate defending John McCain’s record on energy, you should be able to easily cite legislation he has passed to that effect. And while this wasn’t nearly as painful to watch as Sanford’s flub, it certainly didn’t help Mitt’s chances for the #2 spot, which you know he badly wants.

Very creative editing. If you had shown Governor Romney’s entire response, you would have seen he NAILED Obama for voting IN FAVOR of the 2005 Bush-Cheney energy bill. McCain voted against the bill because he said it was larded up with tax breaks and subsidies for the oil and gas industry. Talk about irony!

I saw this same clip elsewhere. It’s frustrating that it’s clipped off just as he’s saying “but…”

So you’re frustrated that the attack from Romney was clipped? Blitzer didn’t ask him about that.

You should show the entire response and let people judge for themselves.
Blitzer asked Romney to name a piece of energy legislation where McCain had shown leadership. Romney named the 2005 Bush-Cheney energy bill, which McCain voted against because he said it would not acheive energy independence and because it was loaded with tax breaks for Big Oil. Obama, by the way, voted for it.
Next time don’t manipulate the news by showing us a misleading clip. You’re no better than some apparatchnik in Stalin’s politburo.

I am totally for Justin on this one. It is his blog and his right to clip a video in anyway he sees fit to support his candidate. Some might call it dishonest, but I don’t. I see it as aggresive, smart political advocacy – such is the nature of our digital world. For instance, not long ago, I posted an e-mail that I received from a soldier in Afganistan and I posted it in the comment section here. I was thoroughly reprimanded for spreading rumors (in fact I was merely asking if anyone else had recieved the same e-mail.) Parts of the e-mail were debunked as being false. Justin knows that, much as in war, Truth is the greatest casualty of a political campaign. I do not judge him for getting in the trenches & gett’in a little dirty for his man, the One. Saints don’t win elections.

@Kathy – Stalin? Really? You’re actually drawing comparisons to folks who covered up mass genocide? Frankly, if that’s how you really feel, you can take your apparatchniks and your politburos and go somewhere else with them because that nonsense is absolutely unwelcome here.
Also, I didn’t edit this video. In fact, I don’t edit any of the video you see here on Donklephant. It’s all embedded from other sources. If you have the entire clip, give me a link and I’ll post it, but CNN has time and time again played that clip edited just like that to highlight Romney’s lack of knowledge. In fact, here’s an example of just that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qswNStL3fqc
If it’s good enough for CNN, it’s good enough for me.
@ J. Harden – The soldier who wrote that email you were spreading asked that it no longer be forwarded because of the inaccuracies it contained. And, forgive me, but given your profession and all the research skills that come with that, I have difficulty believing that you didn’t know what you were doing by posting it. Also, the comparison you’re drawing between that situation and this is apples and oranges, but keep on trying to paint me as a propagandist. I’m sure the Kathys of the world will be more than happy to keep you company.
