Mark Warner to Give Keynote Speech
By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, VirginiaBarack Obama’s campaign has announced that former Virginia governor and current senate candidate Mark Warner will deliver the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, August 26, the convention’s second night.
Not a bad grab for Warner. The keynote spot has been known to advance the careers of other politicians in recent memory. Also, the choice puts a centrist face on the Democratic party. When you’re addressing a national audience, that’s never a bad idea. Obama has been trending away from liberal positions ever since securing the nomination. This is another sign that his campaign is working hard to position Obama as acceptable to all people and not just the leftist base which helped him win the nomination.
