Biden’s Name Whispered More In Obama’s Camp?
By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Biden, Democrats, VeepThat’s the report from Lynn Sweet…
I’m just passing on the latest I’m hearing–that Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) is moving up on the list of potential running mates for presumptive Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.). While Obama’s heart may go towards Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine–his head takes him to a more experienced pick, a Sen. Evan Bayh (D-Ind.) or Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
I don’t see what Bayh really brings (besides maybe Indiana’s electoral votes), but Biden’s benefit is obvious in terms of foreign policy experience.
And Kaine? Really? We’re still talking about him?

Biden is a great choice for VP, if Obama can keep a lid on him. Literally. It seems like at times, Biden opens his mouth without considering for a fraction of a second what he’s about to say. That can get you into a lot of trouble in a diplomatic role.

Biden has a lot of experience, which could help put an end to the “Is he ready to lead?” campaign against Obama.

I don’t think Biden can pass the “do no harm” test. He’s looose.

McCain’s “wrong on Iraq” angle will be even stronger. Not only can he continue to pound Obama for being wrong on the surge, Biden’s uninformed, knee-jerk proposition to split up Iraq into 3 countries would have been a complete disaster.

McCain is clearly going to run on foreign policy. Joe Biden and chew him up and have him for lunch. McCain will probably pick Romney for his Veep (he should pick Tom Ridge but he won’t because he’s scared of the pro-life wing.) Romney is a pit bull and a pro politician. He will do damage to Obama (the good cop), unless Obama gets a really tough “bad cop.” NO ONE will sock it back to Romney like Joe Biden will. He was sharp, tough, no-nonsense, and just plain correct during all the primary debates. He’s ethical, well liked abroad, and knows what needs to be fixed in Washington. Quite simply, he can be Obama’s Dick Cheney- but working on the right side of the issues this time!

The only way Obama will get elected in to have Clinton on his ticket, although Joe Biden brings a strong presence of poltical savvy in foreign affairs issues, he does not bring the party support that is sorely lacking.
On the other hand, I think McCains choice should undoubtedly be Romney. Whatever the choice for both candididates the office of the presidency will be determined!
