Did you see MSNBC's coverage of the speech? Rachel Maddow was openly derisive in her commentary and literally laughing out loud at Warner's speech. I was looking for a transcript or video but cannot find it. Paraphrasing from memory - she said something like this: <i>"I feel like Warner is a visitor from the future - talking about some utopian country where we have no parties - but this is not the country or system we live in and this is the DEMOCRATIC convention and Democrats need to defeat the Republicans and that is the message we should be hearing from Warner." </i>

I find Mark Warner's statement, explaining that it if an idea or solution is successful and effective it truly doesn't matter whether or not the specific idea originated within the Democratic or Republican party, extremely refreshing and groundbreaking. I believe his claim is a valid one. Both parties claim to want to create a country with liberty and justice for all, yet are unwilling to swallow their pride and allow incredible ideas from the other political party to become realities. Instead, the opposite party will reject solutions from the other party that may solve issues and create the fine nation they claim to want to build. Although I understand that it is probably impossible for this nation to solely be made up of one political party, the republicans and democrats should be able to acknowledge each other and accept it if the other side is able to make a positive change within this country. Ultimately, both political parties should have America's best interest in mind and accept defeat if need be.

Shortly after the 2004 election, I landed on Warner as my '08 candidate. Still wish he'd have made a go at it, as I'm still convinced he would have won VA and OH without much trouble.

And with that, the White House. I think a credible argument can be made that Warner's path would have been easier than Obama's.
