A debate is adversarial, so you can get challenged and stumble if your mastery of facts is insufficient. That's simply not the case in a speech. You're preaching to your choir, for chrissakes. It's a golden opportunity to show all the folks watching that you've got everything they want to see. It makes a TON of sense to include carefully chosen and important details here and there to signal competence, mastery, thoughtfulness, compassion, a teaspoon of iconoclasm, and so on and so on. The speech is a free national infomercial for Sarah Palin with no opposition response. If not now, when?
