At this point the bar has been set so incredibly low for her that it will be hard to not come out of it with at least a barely passing grade. The problem is that this is for the office of the VP of the United States. Our expectations should never be that low.

The difference between this Alaska governortorial debate and an American vice-presidential debate is as wide as the Grand Canyon.

Mr. Knowles and Mr. Halcro demonstrated in-depth knowledge on the intricacies of Alaskan state finances and legislature.

Ms. Palin drew one in by friendliness, succinct yet superficial answers, but was overall "lite" on substance. She will need to have much greater depth in her response to pass the VP test.

"The only trouble she might get into is on foriegn policy. I expect that she will role out some platitudes and “the surge worked” comments and get through that ok."

It's the economy, stupid.
Palin is going to flop on her face, I hope she doesn't break her Tina Fey glasses.

I'd say Palin is even money or better to best Biden (the gaffe machine). if you ask me, Biden is the one who sticks out as an outlier among the 4 on the ticket marquee. He's been in Washington how long, and yet he has managed to make almost no impression upon me even though I have followed current events closely during most of that time.

There's a very good chance Biden looks like a stereotypical mid-20th century liberal, and that's not to the good for democrats.

"<i>Every indication is that she is smart, media trained, and ruthless.</i>"

Every indication except that they're cloistering her for the next two weeks until she can memorize the talking points.

But I digress. I think she'll do fine at the debates.

And I don't think that will matter. She's not a candidate who will pull across any mythical angry female Hillary supporters. She's a candidate who will excite the base.

First it was Hillary and now it is Palin. These damn women just stand in the way of hope(TM) and change(TM).

I do hope the following exchange takes place at the debate (h/t NRO):

Biden: Mrs. Palin, I know Hillary Clinton, she is a friend of mine and you're no Hillary Clinton.

Palin: There you go AGAIN, Joe. Plagarizing.

Every indication is that she is smart, media trained, and ruthless. I expect her to perform more than adequately at the debates. They are so structured that it is hard to do too poorly, especially for someone media trained like she is. She will also be hunkered down for the preparation leading up to it.

The only trouble she might get into is on foriegn policy. I expect that she will role out some platitudes and "the surge worked" comments and get through that ok.

I guess it would be "surprisingly reasonable" to take a look at the post-RNC Gallup poll numbers again?

Possibly your previous post on those earlier numbers overlooked the fact that Gallup daily poll numbers are a three-day moving average, not a daily result.

Their chief pollster points out on the web site that only by viewing Monday's (9/8) Gallup results at gallup.com, will one see the post-RNC effect.
