Why Is McCain Camp Trying To Kill TrooperGate?

Okay, I know why they’re trying to do it, but why even get involved? Shouldn’t they let this thing just play out and stay as far away from it as possible? Or are they really that afraid of what this investigation will find?

From Newsweek:

Key Alaska allies of John McCain are trying to derail a politically charged investigation into Gov. Sarah Palin’s firing of her public safety commissioner in order to prevent a so-called “October surprise” that would produce embarrassing information about the vice presidential candidate on the eve of the election.

In a move endorsed by the McCain campaign Friday, John Coghill, the GOP chairman of the state House Rules Committee, wrote a letter seeking a meeting of Alaska’s bipartisan Legislative Council in order to remove the Democratic state senator in charge of the so-called “troopergate” investigation.

Coghill charged that the senator, Hollis French, had “politicized” the probe by making a number of public comments in recent days, including telling ABC News that Palin had a “credibility problem” and that the investigation into the firing of public safety commissioner Walter Monegan was “likely to be damaging to the administration” and could be an “October surprise.” Wrote Coghill: “The investigation appears to be lacking in fairness, neutrality and due process.”

Listen, if they really think French can’t be impartial, then they have a right to ask for somebody else to run it. But that’s not what they’re trying to do. They’re trying to kill the investigation.

However, given there are audio tapes of one of Palin’s top aides talking to Monegan about trooper Mike Wooten, as well as emails from Palin herself expressing frustration that something wasn’t being done about Wooten, there’s too much “there” there to simply shut this investigation down. To do so would be crossing a clear ethical line itself because it would be a blatantly partisan move.

More as it develops…

Give me a break! The media have been distorting this story from the start. It’s a witch hunt led by Hollis French a partisan democrat Obama supporter.

His leaking information damaging to Palin about the as yet unwritten final report is well known, but now French has lied about the nature of his role in the investigation.

The legislature hired an “independent” investigator to take the politics out of this. French says that he has not influenced the investigation, but there is smoking gun proof that he has!

Not WRIGHT for America (www.notwrightforamerica.com) has been all over Hollis French on his numerous transgressions, which the media don’t want people to know about. It’s all there.

hahaha. I really dont think that will mater all that much. McCain will do what he needs to do to get elected. End of story.

How isn’t this turning into a defense of Wooten?

  4. Jim S Says:

No, the media has not been distorting anything. The committee vote to fund the special prosecutor was 12-0 in a majority Republican committee, like everything else in the Alaska legislature.

    Palin’s “Troopergate”

    You might find this interesting….

There is a time-line and info.

    What we do know…

Monegan admits to the Anchorage press that NO ONE (Gov. Palin, Palin’s husband or Palin’s staff) asked that trooper Wooten be fired.

Monegan is a governor appointee and can be fired at any time for any reason (or no reason)

The chief investigator/overseer (Alaska State Senator Hollis French) admitted (before any depositions or investigating) that it will be an “October Surprise”, “damaging to the governor”, and even hinted at possible criminal charges (aka: impeachment).

NOTE: How in the heck can someone (who is intellectually honest) take this investigation seriously when Mr. French has apparently prejudged the case!!! No wonder the Palins, and their staff, are “lawyering up”.

According to Fox News, several top Palin investigators were spotted at
Obama Headquarters (Alaska) on July 30!!!! Can you say “conflict of interest?”

Members of the investigative panel who also support Obama:
    Chairman: Sen. Kim Elton, Juneau
    Sen. Hollis French, Anchorage
    Sen. Bettye Davis, Anchorage
    Sen. Lyman Hoffman, Bethel
    Rep. David Guttenberg, Fairbanks

Overall, IMO, they won’t find anything, but will spin it to say she “abused her power”.
