Oh idov…just because a phrase is a figure of speech, does not make it a double entendre. The word “lipstick” cannot be taken to mean “Sarah Palin” simply because she used it in a speech. (If that becomes the case, I will stop wearing lipstick.)

This is getting ridiculous not b/c the McCain campaign is faking outrage at this seemingly innocent Obama rhetoric, but b/c McCain is truly pissed off, in a very self righteous way, about getting back what he constantly dishes out – only the Republican rhetoric is really insulting.

Did anybody notice the blog that was quoted in the original post that Doug used to make his point? Now I don’t read garbage like that from partisan hacks unless accidentally stumbled upon, but that blog was really malicious. He insulted about half of the general population while trying to take Obama down without batting an eye! What an ass. And these same idiots have a problem with ‘Lipstick on a Pig’ ?

Well, if this nonsense from the McCain camp works and people vote for him cause of his attacks on Obama rather than knowing exactly what he’s gonna do for the economy of this country, or the war we’re gonna be paying for forever, or the energy crisis – beyond drilling for more oil. If he doesn’t spell out exactly how he’s different in his agenda from the previous 8 years, and you guys still elect him president, then you’ll get what you deserve, and seeing what’s goin on in this economy today it won’t be good. Maybe the best thing for the Dem party is to let the next four years go to a Republican president. They got us into this mess – to some extent – maybe it’s only fair they should get us out.

WRONG! idov, it’s not a double entendre. It’s an update of old sayings like making a purse out of a sow’s ear or putting old wine in new skins. It’s an ancient way of saying you can’t dress up an old idea with new words and expect it to be anything but an old idea.

The classic joke is a double entendre. You are apparently saying one thing, but the audience is getting the loaded-on humorous message. Look at the audience, they got the joke. Of course since itâ€™s double entendre, Obama can come back later and pretend he only meant the straight message. He must think the public is totally dumb.
