Key Alaskan Republican Cries Foul At Palin’s TrooperGate Conduct

When the State Senate President of your own party is taking steps to make sure the TrooperGate investigation goes forward, you know this is no partisan witch hunt.
Lyda Green talks to the Mojo Blog:
Calling herself a “raging Republican,” Green says, she is “absolutely disgusted, embarrassed, and ashamed” by the McCain-Palin campaign’s intervention in the Troopergate probe. [...]She says she is exploring various options. The subpoenas cannot be enforced while the House and Senate are out of session, and neither body is due to return to the state capitol until January. Green, who is retiring as a state senator, says she is looking into whether she could call just the Senate back. The body could vote to instruct the attorney general to change his position; it could vote to impose punishments on those not complying with the subpoenas. But the Republican-controlled House might not be eager to return in order to inconvenience McCain’s running mate. (The state Senate has a small Democratic majority; because a Democratic-Republican coalition controls the body, Green, a Republican, is Senate president.)
And not only that, Green charges that Palin and company have been making stuff up…
Green is alarmed by the McCain squad’s use of hardball tactics and “the length to which they’re going to impede and delay” the investigation. The local press conferences held by McCain-Palin aides, she adds, “are vile. They’re attacking nice people, saying things that are not true. Walt Monegan has been respected in all circles. To see him used as a scapegoat is very disheartening.”
More as it develops…

You are aware that Palin blew the whistle on the GOP Chairman shaking down the oil company while he chaired the regulatory commission? The same GOP chair that has been raising money for Lie-to-ya Green’s re-election campaigns for years. This GOP chair went from a 6 figure salary back to 5 figure, mid 5 figure, in the blink of an eye.
Palin doesn’t win in Alaska with GOP Party backing, she wins with gop rank and file voters and independents.si

I’m all for the situation getting the due process treatment it deserves. So the investigation is ongoing. What does that show? Only that the facts have yet to be ascertained to the satisfaction of investigators. It doesn’t show wrongdoing. That remains to be seen.
Partisan witchhunt? Somewhat. But also part intramural scrimmage, as SDW points out. While most of us have already safely assumed that Alaskan democrats are not on Palin’s side, what far fewer realize is that Palin has managed to make enemies among GOP party insiders in Alaska.
So there are really 3 games going on. There’s the partisan opportunity for Alaskan democrats. There’s the intramural struggle for Alaskan GOP insiders Palin has pissed off.
And last but not least, there’s the giant ass-covering festival among the rank-and-file folks who just want to do their jobs, stay out of trouble, and thus KEEP their jobs. That’s one huge reason why the investigation is likely to drag out and reach no conclusions until after the election. Everyone goes by the book, everyone bumps the decision up the chain of command, everyone tries to stay out of the sh!tstorm. Make no mistake, such undertakings proceed in large part irrespective of the facts. There are the multiple political sides motivated for various outcomes, and then there are the many, many folks who are just doing their best not to get any on them.
