7 Palin Staffers Will Testify In TrooperGate

Well how about that? First Todd Palin agrees to testify and now her team jumps on board.
In any event, while I think the delay was a strategic move, I’m happy Palin and her staff are finally cooperating.
The seven, including Palin’s chief of staff, had tried to fight subpoenas issued by the state Senate Judiciary Committee. But an Anchorage judge upheld the subpoenas Thursday, and Alaska Attorney General Talis Colberg, whose department challenged the authority of the subpoenas, notified the committee Sunday that the seven would give statements after all.
“Despite my initial concerns about the subpoenas, we respect the court’s decision to defer to the legislature,” Colberg said in a statement.
Colberg said his department was working with Judiciary Committee Chairman Hollis French to arrange the testimony.
“We’re still working out the details,” said French.
This is the type of transparency you expect from a “Reformer” candidate, so this can only help Palin’s brand in the long run. Well, unless one of the staffers drops some massive bombshell.
Also of note, the above story does state that Todd may not be testifying now, even though an earlier story from the AP said he would.
More on that as it develops…

I don’t know why they didn’t just agree to this earlier. I mean, all they have to do is get their stories straight, and it becomes ‘he said’/’she said’, which translates to a stalemate in the press.
You could also see this as a delaying tactic: If they’re going to give statements now, that delays release of the report a little longer. And when it does come out, it will have pro-Palin statements in it, and those will take a while to dissect and discredit.

It really shows you how far we’ve come that we’re praising her team for actually, you know, following the law and responding to subpoenas. For an investigation into abuse of power, no less. Maybe Jennn should add that to her series about the similarities between Palin and Cheney, although to be fair Cheney’s team haven’t responded to theirs.

I read or heard I believe that Todd Palin will be answering questions. Right, answering questions “in writing” and delivered by his legal counsel. What a farce. I think they all needed some time to get their stories straight. I would like to see the emails released to see if they contain any incriminating evidence. Normally I wouldn’t even be concerned with something like this, but she, Sarah Palin and the McCain campaign have made the bigger deal out of it. I think the fact that they tried to label the investigation as a “smear by the Democrats” and refusing to cooperate with the law speaks volumes to her character or lack there of. I just don’t believe for five minutes that she’s everything she’d like her state or the country at large to believe she is. Maverick-Schmaverick!!!
