I live in Oklahoma and counted every day until keating finally left office. He left oklahoma bankrupt! I remember the bad old keating days when we had a hiring freeze, there was no money for travel, no per diem, all leave had to be pre-approved, no overtime, no nothing.
Fast forward to Democratic governor Brad henry, who admittedly is about as conservative as democrat as it gets. Budgets got better, and I actually was becoming optimistic about this place.
It looks like Oklahoma will be saddled though with Inhofe, who is considered the biggest idiot on the hill. Oklahomans continue to vote republican, thinking just because the housing crash hasn’t been dropped on their doorstep yet that everything’s fine. Ask them again in 2009.

i expect the next gop attack will be that obama is a secret homosexual. really it is about all they have left to make up about him that might scare some people.

Frank Keating’s $250,000 drug deal -

Down in Oklahoma we remember our ex-Governor Frank Keating, mostly for his drug deal. Zillionaire mutual fund guy Jack Dreyfus paid Frank Keating $250,000 to promote the drug Dilantin. Payments began when Frank was working for the Justice Department and continued after he was elected Governor.

Jack Dreyfus wanted to promote the drug Dilantin. Dreyfus took it. Frank and/or his wife Cathy took it. Jack’s plan was to get Frank to have Dilantin used on Federal Prisoners, then after he became Governor, Oklahoma State inmates.

Frank took Jack’s $250,000 and put it in his kids’ college trusts. (Frank & wife are wealthy from oil). AFTER the stuff hit the fan, Frank gave Dreyfus back the $250,000—but not the earnings from having its investment over the years.
