As I watch John McCain's campaign the word that keeps coming to mind is "befuddled". Obama seems to be campaigning circles around him.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/10/13/MNF313G6Q5.DTL

"McCain's senior adviser Sen. Lindsey Graham promised over the weekend that McCain would debut new economic proposals that would include lowering tax rates for investors and cutting the capital gains tax.

But the Arizona Senator - in words that could describe his troubled campaign as much as the country's economic problems - chose instead today to deliver a fighting address in Virginia aimed at rousing supporters and urging them to stay the course in the presidential race."

So instead of addressing the economy and trying to appeal to moderates and swing voters, he continues to pander to his base. Way to reset your campaign, Senator.

That sounded very similar to the way he ended his convention speech. It's kinda a populist play with a little nationalism thrown in. But saying you will fight for this and that is far less important than HOW you will fight.

As for the word choice itself, it doesn't bother me, but I don't think it's the best way to frame himself.

This is a comeback speech? It sounds more like a pep rally and more preaching to the converted.
