I think the wave of Republicans that are supporting Obama are uncomfortable with the us-vs-them mentality that the McCain campaign has employed to try and keep enough support in the base to keep the congressional races from being a route. Powell’s name still means a lot to many Americans and his thought process could help reinforce those who are thinking about voting for Obama, but aren’t 100%comfortable about it.

The Powell Doctrine is back.

I am assuming this means that we will accept and negotiate with a nuclear armed Iran. If Israel attacks, they are on their own.

On McCainâ€™s ads: â€œIt troubled me. Those kind of images going out on Al-Jazeera are killing us around the world.

Apparently, Powell doesn't really care about those other images from Al-Jazera that are broadcast here, i.e., the head-choppings, car-bombings, and sermons calling for the death of America and the Jews...the ones where they are actually "killing us." To Powell, that's just what muslims do. We must expect them to act like animals because they merely respond and react to our policy, with no motivational ideology of their own. They will naturally integrate harmoniously into the global community as soon as we become isolationists again. The Powell Doctrine is archaic. He is a dinosaur.
