It’s Official. Palin Doesn’t Know What The VP Does.
By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Palin, Veep, VideoEarlier in the year, Palin was famously quoted as saying the following…
Sure, she was just kidding. Fair enough.
Then how does she explain this…
Folks, all the VP does is break ties in the Senate and be ready to be President if the need arises. Those are basically the VP’s two jobs. What Palin describes in this second clip is WAY off base.
Now, some on the right feel a need to defend her and have said, “Well, she was talking to second graders. She was just oversimplifying it.”
No, she was just getting it completely wrong. The VP does not “get in there with the Senators and make a lot of good policy changes.” No way, no how. This does not happen.
Moving on…

I think a lot of the commentary on this totally misses the point.
According to the Constitution, the Vice President is the President of the Senate. The crux is that Palin subscribes to the Bush/Cheney worldview that the President can do anything he/she wants. Which means, by obvious extension, that the President fo the Senate can run the Senate any way she wants.
The problem is not that Palin is ignorant of the Constitutional definition of the Vice President’s duties. It is that she interprets “President” (whether of the United States or of the Senate) in a way totally unlike anyone who actually knows something about constitutional law. Or shoudl that be “anyone who CARES about constitutional law”?

Clearly she’s unfit for high office. Everyone knows the Vice-President meets with energy CEOs in closed meetings and organizes shadow government kangaroo courts to try suspected terrorists.

They should have spent $150,000 on tutoring instead of a new wardrobe.
