Murtha’s Seat In Jeopardy?

Looks like the race is tightening up in Pennsylvania’s 12th district.

From Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:

Democratic Rep. John Murtha leads retired Army Lt. Col. William Russell by a little more than 4 percentage points, within the Susquehanna Poll’s 4.9-point margin of error. The poll of 400 likely voters was conducted for the Tribune-Review on Tuesday, amid uproar over Murtha’s statement that some of his constituents are racist.

Stanley Shemanski, 67, a retired meat cutter who lives in Apollo, said he’s undecided about the congressional race. He doesn’t know much about Russell, but he’s upset with Murtha’s comment that racism in the district could hurt Democrat Barack Obama’s chances.

“I didn’t like that at all. He shouldn’t have said it,” Shemanski said.

No, he shouldn’t have said it, and the fact that he said disparaging things twice about Pennsylvanians puts him directly in the voters crosshairs.

So what to make of this?

Well, I think many of us in the centersphere would welcome this seat turning red. Murtha has time and time again proven himself to be a decidedly partisan animal above all else, and maybe this could be a clear signal to Dems to not get too cocky if they win big.

I’ll be keeping my eye on this race come election night.

He’s got a continual case of Foot In Mouth Syndrome. Glad to see it happen as well.

I agree, Justin. Arrogance should be rewarded in kind.

Agreed. Democrat here – Murtha needs to go. (I wouldn’t mind a Pelosi and Reed shift, too).

It’s a shame it takes him insulting his own constituents to put him in danger of losing his seat. He’s blazenly corrupt. I’d cheer if he lost but I’m not going to count on it.
