I'm not big on his post-presidency when his personal animosity towards Taft led him to take some less-than-brilliant positions, but I think his presidency was very forward-thinking for its time and while I see how you could claim he wanted to put the nation before the individual, I've always thought of him as a failry rugged individualist.
