Rasmussen: Obama Up By 5

McCain – 46%
Obama loses one and McCain gains two today as the numbers tighten a bit more than we’ve seen recently in one day of polling. Usually you see a 1 or 2 point shift.
Some crosstabs…
- Obama now wins 11% of Republican votes.
- McCain gets 10% of Democrats.
- The candidates are essentially even among unaffiliated voters.
- Obama leads by ten among women overall.
- McCain has a five-point advantage among white women.
- McCain leads by a single point among men.
- Obama is viewed favorably by 55%.
- McCain is viewed favorably by 51%.
So today’s numbers bring better news than yesterday for McCain, but with Obama still above 50%, McCain needs to really start bringing independents back into his camp if he has any hope of closing the gap.

10/27/2008: McCain – 45%, Obama – 51%
10/26/2008: McCain – 44%, Obama – 52%

These numbers may tighten even further as Obama’s 2001 comments about “redistribution of wealth” and “fundamental flaws” in our Constitution get airplay and attention. While I didn’t like his tax policy, I could understand why his supporters were vigorously defending him against the socialist meme. Now it’s going to be a lot harder to do that.
