McCain/Palin the Butt of More Late-Night Jokes
By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Biden, McCain, Media, PalinMaybe late-night comics should be rooting for John McCain and Sarah Palin. If the Republican ticket loses, the comics will have to find new material.
Check this story out.
From Sept. 1 through Friday, the Republicans were the target of 475 jokes by Jay Leno and David Letterman alone. The Democratic team of Obama and Joe Biden were the victim 69 times, according to the Center for Media and Public Affairs, which has been tracking such data since 1988. That’s nearly a 7-to-1 ratio.
In no other campaign over the last 20 years has one party’s ticket been jabbed more than the other by even a 2-to-1 ratio, said Robert Lichter, a George Mason University professor and head of the center.Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have a similar imbalance.
Make of that what you will. But, if the polls are to be believed, the late-night comics are going to have to get a lot more comfortable making fun of Obama. Or I guess they can hope Britney Spears gets into trouble again.

Don Imus said that about Bush back in 2000. Look where that got us. :-(

You know, I was listening to Rush and crew today:
They’ve turned against really arguing for McCain. Now its: listen to this recording of Obama, and all the reverb! THEY MUST BE ALTERING THIS RECORDING!
Some other shmoe was talking about ACORN, how Obama was against voter reform, wanted to make all the criminals voters, hated babies or whatever.
So I feel like the argument now is “hate obama” and if he wins, “let me plant seeds that the win was illegitimate - so do whatever you think you should.”

I can hardly remember an election when I’ve waited so long to decide on my choice for President. One week from today, I’ll cast my vote for Sen. McCain, and if anyone cares, here’s why:
1. MCCAIN SEEKS TO LIMIT ABORTION - Sen. Obama’s position may be called the “audacity of hopelessness.” He is out of step with his own running mate, Joe Biden, who in 2003 with 63 other senators voted to ban the practice of partial birth abortion. Under a President Obama, a Federal Freedom of Choice Act would increase the number of abortions performed annually, defying the “safe, legal, and rare” rhetoric that is often heard by abortion’s proponents. On the other hand, Sen. McCain has consistently voted to protect the unborn, the right to life prerequisite to all other rights that we enjoy in this country.
2. MCCAIN FAVORS CUTS IN MILITARY SPENDING - He has been very clear that we don’t need new weapons systems that cost billions, and would cut them from the bloated Pentagon defense budget. That money can be used elsewhere, perhaps to expand peaceful programs that are working, such as PEPFAR, the U.S. initiative against the spread of AIDS in Africa.
3. MCCAIN IS CORRECT ON IMMIGRATION AND GLOBAL WARMING. He seeks a path to citizenship for those who are living in the U.S. illegally, and wants to tighten border control. Also, he acknowledges the need for “Creation Care,” that we must take care of this earth, as God’s stewards, and this includes keeping the thermostat in-check.
4. MCCAIN WOULD MAKE THE GOVERNMENT LIVE WITHIN ITS MEANS. There is a huge disconnect between the average American who must carefully budget and Washington, that spends like there’s no tomorrow. We need a Dave Ramsey approach to federal spending! McCain has the record to show he’d stand-up to wasteful spending.
On these four issues, Sen. McCain is dead-on. Together, they tip my vote in his direction.

I won’t start on the abortion issue…
But cuts in military spending? Check for Obama and the Dems - didn’t I hear something about 25% reduction from the left?
McCain and Palin are anything but followers in wasteful spending. earmarks aren’t that much of our federal budget, and Palin left Wasilla in debt, and if it wasn’t for oil, Alaska too.
But I’m not trying to convince you…more like argue with those points.

Erik, he’s just yet another voter who apparently doesn’t realize that the Congress writes the laws, not the President. OK, GWB has the same blind spot, and he is the President. Those reasons sound like good ones . . . if you are voting for a Representative or a Senator.
But for President, you need someone with some demonstrated ability to run something. Watching the two campaigns over the last year, McCain’s executive ability is underwhelming.

Manchester is simply repeating GOP talking points–another “I haven’t decided but I really did a long time ago and I am just posting to convince others that McCain is the right choice after a long conflicted reasoning process” voter.
The truth is, if he really cared about 2,3,4, and 5 he would be voting for Obama. On issue 1 (abortion) McCain is only marginally more in tune with his views than Obama.
McCain has said in the past he would not repeal Roe V Wade (but later said he would), he is not against Stem Cell research (but now says he might be), supports abortion for rape and incest (and would not test for rape). Which McCain are you going to believe; the one who spoke honestly, or the one who will now say anything to get elected? At least Obama is consistent–and supports pregnancy prevention.

Letterman has a funny little skit where they splice candidate speeches together to say something entirely different:
Last night John McCain stated that “as President I promise to have a 3-way with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid” while Obama stated that “I will tax your ass off”
Pretty funny stuff when you’re watching it.
