As a New Hampshirite, I can say that there's some definite truth to this. A year ago if someone had asked me how I planned to vote in the 2008 elections, I would say that it could be for any party in any race... But now I'm almost exclusively voting Democratic aside from some of the local races.

As far as the Shaheen/Sununu race goes, I'm not enthusiastic about either candidate. Their both moderates, which is great... but I'm voting for Shaheen for one primary reason: John Sununu is a complete dick. Since New Hampshire is the kind of state where you can meet your elected officials on a fairly regular basis, I've met both Shaheen and Sununu a number of times. Shaheen is very down-to-earth and concerned about what people have to say. She takes time to answer questions and explain her positions. John Sununu acts as if he's too important for you and that you're wasting his time, and he comes off as a royal jerk. Not a good way to treat your constituents, in my opinion. Being personable and friendly with voters goes a really long way in this state... this is why the current governor, John Lynch, is so immensely popular.

I will be voting for Obama next week, but my reasoning there is a bit different than the senate/governor races. I voted for McCain in the primary, and I genuinely like the guy... but Obama has shown himself to be a calmer, smarter and pragmatic candidate. And the Palin pick is not going over well here in the Granite State. Fiscal conservatism is popular here. Social conservatism is not. Palin epitomizes the latter, and I think that hurts McCain. Then again, I'm not a political analyst so take it for what it's worth.
