Is McCain In Trouble In Arizona?

Earlier this week, I noted that the latest Rasmussen poll of Arizona showed that John McCain was leading by only five points in his home state.
Now, there’s a poll showing that McCain’s lead has shrunk to two points:
In what could be potentially very embarrassing development for Sen. John McCain, a number of polls out of Arizona show the race tightening between the Republican presidential nominee and his Democratic rival. In the latest Cronkite/Eight survey, McCain leads Sen. Barack Obama by two points, 46 percent to 44 percent among registered voters, well within the poll’s margin of error.
The poll of 1,019 registered voters indicated that 9 percent of respondents were undecided. The findings are in line with four other recent surveys in McCain’s home state that showed the race tightening there.
“Arizona, even though we’re a Republican state and John McCain is our senator, reflects the national mood,” said Tara Blanc, associate director of the poll which was sponsored jointly by the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University and KAET-TV. “The economy here has been hit pretty hard and the electorate is blaming the Republicans by 2 to 1 over the Democrats.”
As the race tightens, Obama apparently has upped his spending in the state which at one time seemed completely unwinnable for him, doing relatively modest television buys, according to Blanc.
Back in 2000, Al Gore could have lost Florida and still won the White House if he’d only pulled out a victory in his home state of Tennessee.
Will the same thing happen to John McCain in 2008?

No way. If McCain loses AZ, it’ll be as part of him getting beaten like a rented mule on a nationwide level.
There is no way that McCain will lose Arizona while accumulating 260-269 electoral votes. If he loses AZ, he’ll end up with around 150 EV while Obama approaches 400.
