Shays Loses. Murtha Wins. ASC Shakes His Head.
By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in NewsI’d hoped that John Murtha would be kicked out on his corrupt ass, but he has won reelection. I’d also hoped that the people of Connecticut would keep centrist Republican Chris Shays in office, but he has lost.
Even in a clear Democrat year, I thought maybe we could get rid of one of the worst Dems and keep one of the best Republicans around. Such a shame.

No excuses for the Democrats in the next 4 years. The Democrats came to power in 2006, and now 2008 solely on America’s disdain for President Bush. There will be nobody to blame but themselves if they screw the pooch.

Two glimmers of hope for the GOP going forward:
1) As mentioned in a previous thread, there will be no Dem supermajority in the Senate (the House remains to be seen).
2) I don’t recall whether it was Fox News or MSNBC that reported this, but apparently exit polls have been showing that Sarah Palin was a non-factor for Obama voters. That seems to confirm what I’ve suspected all along, that Palin’s presence didn’t torpedo McCain - the bad economy torpedoed them both. So at least Palin still comes out of this not looking too bad.

Agree, Jimmy. (This coming from a centrist).

Stevens is winning and Franken is in a dead heat with Coleman. If Stevens wins and so does Franken, I will add my shaken head in dismay to yours.

Shays was wrong on some big stuff (Iraq) as well as obscure economic issues (seller-funded DPA).
Goodbye, good riddance.

That’s funny Jimmy, because the Rep’s seem to have plenty of excuses for the six years that they ran all three branches of gov’t. Rep’s still can filibuster, as of this morning. But so for all this pouting that Rep’s got their butts handed to them, I hope you’ll give you some praise should they get things right. As in Fix the Economy, get jobs to start to develop again (other than retail), work on infrastructure, get a health care system that is accessible to everyone, correct the mistakes Bush made in education, end the war that Bush started by misleading America. That’s a fair amount, and I wouldn’t expect it to happen in 100 days, let alone one administration.

The National Debt has been growing under this Dem House and Senate FASTER than any other 2 yr period in History. They have added 2.5 trillion in 22 Months. GOP Congress added 3 Trillion over 6 years,,
