I will bet anyone on this site a dollar that Palin will NEVER win the Republican nomination for president. She’s going to be a US Senator from Alaska, end of story.

As for her interest in being president: I’d like to play lead guitar for AC/DC. Trouble is, I don’t know how to play the guitar. That pretty much sums up her chances.

That kind of talk belongs in a house of worship – not as deliberate points in a public policy discussion. When is this crap going to end? If religion, lifestyle, and fear mongering are part of a platform what does that say about those voters who support them? How could anyone be so obtuse, and yet taken seriously by so many?

I like Sarah Palin. I really do. And I can see her winning the GOP nomination in 2012 if indeed she wants to go for it. But if she does get that far, it means the Republicans are still trying to hold together their old coalition of self-reliant libertarians and social conservatives with the equivalent of spit and baling wire. Merely putting forth a candidate with one foot in each of these groups is no guarantee that either one will wholeheartedly embrace her, as we saw last week when Palin, supposedly the real drawing force of the ticket, nonetheless couldn’t keep significant numbers of libertarians or “socons” from defecting to Obama. Never mind most moderate voters.
