As I've mentioned here before, ever since he turned around the Salt Lake Olympic Organizing Committee, I've always wanted to see Romney do a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Ueberroth" rel="nofollow">Peter Ueberroth</a> and replace Bud Selig as the next commissioner of Major League Baseball. After 15+ years of Selig allowing problems like players' steroid use to fester, and otherwise generally making a mess of the game (see the '94 strike, the '02 All-Star Game fiasco, etc.), MLB could use someone like Romney in charge to help clean up their act. And as it turns out, Selig's current term as MLB commish (which he has claimed will be his last) ends in 2012. Or maybe he has his eye on a career outside of politics. That was really the only thing he could say. If he had said he was thinking of running again, that would have been pounced on as a prediction of a McCain defeat (it would be a stretch for him to run in 2016 after eight years out of the spotlight). He said he was expecting McCain to win, so in order to be consistent with that he had to say that he was not expecting to run again.
