Palin Talks To Matt Lauer

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, 2012 Election, Palin, Video

A pretty lengthy interview describing the ups and downs of campaign ‘08.

This is the thing…she’s definitely interested in a 2012 run. Because this interview is designed to undo what the McCain’s media strategy did to her.

But will it work?

Not really. Sure, it may save her for her next run as Governor, but hanging out with Lauer (or any other journalist for that matter) won’t help her launch a serious bid. If she wants to do that she’ll need to start a PAC, give money out to congressional Republicans and begin making regular visits to the lower 48.

We shall see…

Palin’s likability quotient is extremely high. These interviews serve her well. I’ve been pessimistic that she can rebound on a national scale, but I’m starting think she might pull it off. In the end, I think it will be bad for the Republican “brand” (I’m sick of that expression, but oh well.) She perpetuates the stereotype of Republicans as ignorant, but fun to hang out with, or in her case “hot”. She is anti-meritocracy, and full on identity politics as usual. But the right-wing masses love her, and the Repubs probably have no where else to go. She’ll be the last gasp of the religious right. After she fails in 2012, or beyond, they’ll just have to go back to church and let the grown ups govern for a generation or two. (That is if the Dems don’t screw up, and I don’t think Obama will let them. Crossing fingers.)
