Will The GOP Back Palin?
By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, 2012 Election, Alaska, Palin, Republicans, VideoA Hardball panel discusses her future and her recent appears at the Republican Governors Association convention…
As usual, Pat Buchanan loves Palin, but the other Republican on the panel isn’t too keen to give her the same praise.
And frankly, I think many in the GOP are embarrassed by her performance on the trail. Especially guys like Romney, Crist, Pawlenty and Huckabee…all of whom are current or former Governors and have their eyes on 2012.
So between the rumors about her not knowing stuff about basic world geography and then her odd appearance at the RGA convention, this could be a pretty clear signal that she’s not going to be welcome in the lower 48 anytime soon.
It’s as if the GOP is saying “Go prove yourself and we’ll talk in 2016.”
What do you think?

Great write-up. I think she’s done. I loved her in 2008, but she needs to step a side for Jindal. Wait…it’s still 08. What are we doing talking about this already? ;)
p.s. I still have a crush on Palin.

Rumors are rumors. I have no reason, for example to believe that Palin doesn’t know that Africa is not a country but a continent. And I take no pleasure from watching folks trying to shovel dirt on her in the aftermath of the election, some with unseemly glee. (although I think Caribou Barbie and Wasilla Hillbillies are pretty funny turns of phrase. Politics aint beanbag.)
Bu the fact that such utterly unsubstantiated rumors have been granted such wide currency speaks to the general perception of her that was formed in the minds of folks: lightweight.
When it come to impressions that folks new to the public eye make, that’s a tough one to overcome, because it doesn’t have a positive flipside like some other negatives do.

The party needs to change, yes. But it won’t. It is a nearly impossible feat due to the fact that the ultra-conservatives are known, if for nothing else, for being rigid and intolerant. Compromise, in the matters of religion, does not happen. Their conscience will not allow it. The gap between the religious fundamental Christian conservatives and the more moderate Republicans is wider now than ever before in recent history. I see the party itself dividing into two separate parties in the future. Perhaps they can branch off and call themselves “Palinites” and spare the rest of the GOP the embarrassment of having this woman represent them.

I think it’ll come down to which faction has the biggest support in the party. Not all Reps like her, but enough do that she can make a run.
As a Democrat, i’m just going to relax with a bowl of popcorn and watch the GOP eat its own

Great writeup? More of the same tripe that the mainstream media heaped on us for two months.
“So between the rumors about her not knowing stuff about basic world geography and then her odd appearance at the RGA convention”
There were just rumors, which I think she has debunked completely but the Palin haters wont give up. Oh, by the way, are you still hanging on to the one about her not being Trig’s mom? Are you busy starting some other idiotic rumors about her?
And the odd appearance at the RGA convention? She was better than ever. She handled herself very well at the too-brief press conference (wasn’t her fault) and her humorous, intelligent speech. Or would you have preferred Joe Biden to come in and make a dozen idiotic statements.

That’s going to depend on how well Obama does this next four years. Palin is extremely stupid, but she’s also extremely ambitious. Maybe if she realizes that the only way to “plow through” these doors she keeps going on about is to learn something or at least looks as though she knows something, she will embark upon some kind of four-year intensive learning course. Considering her college record, though, her disdain for educated people and her single-minded focus on reaching her goal through god’s will and charm alone, I don’t see her hitting the books.
So in four years will Obama have fumbled on the economy, created some (even more) horrible situation in Iraq and / or Afghanistan while working overtime to alienate white people, Christians, working class and rural Americans? If the answer is yes, then Sally from the Valley Palin is the future of the party.
I don’t think this scenario is likely.
Also, don’t forget– Mary Carey is a republican and really hot—she might rise up and challenge Palin! She has better public speaking skills and just as much knowledge of world events, not that either of these qualities are prerequisites for the presidency as far as the base base are concerned.
But if Obama doesn’t ruin every single thing he’s been elected to fix, the GOP is going to need someone who can debate him on national and international issues and win, not someone who’s going to run around stumping on cute anecdotes about her kids interspersed with shout-outs to the brownshirts.
