I think that Joe is doing exactly as planned when he negotiated the VP job with Obama, which is to be in on setting policy. I'm sure he has had his input on the others chosen for the cabinet. He and Hillary have been friends for some time, and Joe didn't want to be SOS. In spite of how most of the media has tried to portray Joe I don't think he requires being a "rock star" in order to feel fulfilled, and I doubt that he worries about being in the spotlight. He is far more likely to be fulfilled by seeing our policies changed so that this country is back on track in the world community and that middle class people get some breaks so that they can get ahead and that the damage done by the Bush/Cheney administration in many areas is set right.

I enjoyed reading this article, thank you! Joe Biden is such a good guy and I feel he is an asset to the Obama administration. Whatever role he plays he will do well.

Biden will have trouble making his presence felt. Without a specific portfolio, his influence will depend entirely on his relationship with Obama.

The VP does have a statutory role on the NSC, but it doesn't amount to much by itself without one of the above two factors in play.
